1995 Cavalier Fuse problem

The lighter should supply what you need. If not, go to a local car alarm shop. They can tap power INSIDE the car, properly fuse it, and probably mount a dedicated lighter outlet just for your phone.

: phones into the lighter. This causes the lighter fuse to pop.

: We are thinking of running a dedicated circut from the lighter to the fuse

I think I would fish a good heavy wire and hook it directly to the
hot wire connection on the starter. I would then put an inline fuse
on this new wire that is rated for the gauge of wire being used.

As far as I know the cigarette lighter is about the heaviest wire
you'll find under the dash. Those phones must draw a lot of amps !
It would be interesting to know how many amps they do draw. It
must state amp draw on the phone right ?

I've been thinking about getting a phone too
