Question about 2004 Ford F150

2 Answers

Ihave a 2002 F-150 and I cannot put it into gear. The gearshift seems to be stuck. Could this be an electrical problem since my electric windows and sunroof do not work either.

I have ALL the exact same problems in my 2004 Ford F150 it seem many Ford F150 vehicles are experiencing the window issue. In my case the windows plastic regulator broke; I purchased all 4 windows regulators which comes w/ the motor mechanism, and installed them in myself, time consuming, but not hard! Kragen O'Reilly was cheaper than the dealer. I spent a total of $560 and saved $350. You can download step by step instructions from the Ford website.
As to the gearshift, a temporary solution, that has worked for me, is to take console off and spray contact cleaner in the gearshift. It may have gunk from drinks that have spilled, clean it out as much as possible. It will work as new, for a couple of months. May have to repeat the process or replace the gearshifter which Ford quoted $1,250. As to the sunroof, I woudn't know, mine stopped working and broke so it needs to be replaced, very expensive. I also have a back window that works when it wants to, so I believe I have electrical issues as well, but It will have to wait. Hope this helps, good luck!

Check to see that the brake lights work, if the brake ciricuit is inop the shfter will not come out of park, the brake light circuit power up a small solenoid under the dash that relaease the shifter.

Put a screw driver into the latch hole of your center console lid and pry off your center console cover (cup holder area, gear labels, etc) then press the little white lever next on the left side of the gear shifter. Hold that. Press the brake and shift into drive.

Make sure transmission is in Park. Key will not come out until ignition is fully off and ignition will not turn fully off until gear selector is in park

How do you release a lock shift with blown fuse

Presuming you want to move a car with major electrical problems only for purposes of maintenance, look for a small panel near the gearshift with a slot in it. Most cars have a mechanical shift release under this small panel that will allow you to move the shift lever without the electrical interlock active. Check the owners manual for details.

Automatic transmission not shifting gears

What you say is possible and should be check out as well. Run fault codes and look for faulty TCM and torque converter clutch solenoid and servo. IT would not hurt to have a pressure test done on the transmission as well to see it and mechanical damage was done in the accident as if there was it will be claimable from the accident

Gear shift stuck in park a/c will not turn on and door locks not working all this happened at the same time

Check for a switch on the brake pedal lever. The part releases the gearshift when you put your foot on the brake pedal. A drivers foot often hits this switch and causes the problem.

For the rest of your problems they may correct when you work on the brake pedal switch. Or you may have damaged electrical system by shorting the brake pedal switch.

1994 nissan pickup - will not shift into gear from park. Transmission is working fine - but the button will not push down to put it into gear. With the cable can be pulled manually, and the car will lock...

Most likely it is a problem with the brake pedal interlock. This can be an electrical or mechanical problem. When you are in park and press the brake pedal, you should hear a faint click near the gearshift lever. If you do hear a faint click when you press the brake pedal, you have eliminated an electrical problem anyway- this would mean the interlock solenoid is not disengaging.

If the interlock solenoid is not disengaging, you will need to troubleshoot the mechanical problem. Often there is a return spring that pops off or breaks. The solenoid plunger can become stuck from either rust or one too many spilled cups of coffee.

If there is no sound at all (and it can be very faint, so you need to have the interior as quiet as possible. Key on, don't start the truck, everything that makes noise off) it can still be either mechanical or electrical. Begin troubleshooting by verifying that all your fuses are good.

That is about all the basics I can provide. Google your truck and you should be able to find a detailed service manual that will instruct you on how to disassemble the gearshift assembly and provide you with an electrical schematic of your trucks wiring. Good Luck, and Thank You for using FixYa.

Gearshift stuck in park..was able to engage it with a few depressions of the brake pedal..is this a problem with the brake light switch?

the problem is you shift lever solenoid, this is an electrical plug that makes sure that you have your foot on the brake before it will let you put the car in gear, if you can gain acess in the console where the gear shifter is there will be an electrical connecter, usually on the left side, you can replace the part or do as i did on my 95Z28 and just leave it unplugged, but remember that if you chose to leave it unplugged the car will now be able to be put in gear without your foot having to be on the brake

Electric windows repair & partsmotors but does go up gears?

The windows are controlled by electric window regulators. They are cable regulators with electric motors. They average in price around $100, new.
If your window is up, don't put it down until you have the regulator replaced. Otherwise you may end up stuck with the window in the down position and no way to get it up.
