Parking brake functions but will not stop car?

The brake shoes or pads seem to be out of adjustment, the components inside the brake drum could also be corroded frozen . Unless you are qualified to do brake work, I don't recommend you do it yourself . Its called an emergency brake for just that reason ,you and your familys life could depend on it working correctly what ever the cost go to a professional .

"A SENSOR WAS CHANGED ON MY 2006 PONTIAC TORRENT RECENTLY TO FIX SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. THEN ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE CAME ON AND STAYED ON. While driving there are no problems with brakes. How should I...

The ABS sensor is dirty or defective. The wire that attaches to the ABS sensor has a loose connection or the wire broke off. It could also be a worn wheel bearing. It is important. When you hit a deep puddle of water with one or more tires, the speed of rotation slows down a lot. The sensor detects this in a one sixtieth of one second to apply the brakes only on the wheels that are spinning faster to prevent the car from swerving and losing control of your car. It can apply the brakes much faster than people. The system maintains proper rotation for each wheel independently from the other wheels. It can apply the brakes to one or more wheels out of four to keep the car going in a straight path. Some ABS sensors are in the hub, so you have to replace the hub assembly with the ABS sensor. You cannot just replace the ABS sensor only if it is in the hub assembly.

Some whirling noises

suspect it is warped disc rotors. If the pedal pulsates under your foot on light braking I would take it to a brake shop for investigation of the fault. Any noise or unusual incidents with brakes can become critical if ignored.

Each time we drive our jeep we are getting a loud whining sound

This could be caused from a number of things.

Brakes shes or rotors
Worn tires uneven read wear
Bad wheel bearings.

You can rule out the brakes by 50% chance of it being this if when your driving it and you stil hear this noise without applying pressure to the break pedal. Although a pad that came off may be stuck on the rotor causing this.

Tires or more like a huming and vibrating.

Bearings are common and sound like a whirling and more pronounced as the speed picks up in the vehicle.

Won't go into reverse this morning

reverse requires more hydraulic pressure to hold it in reverse. Maybe you have a partially plugged filter that the thicker, cold fluid can't get through. The whirr could be the pump in the trannie being dtarved for fluid due to being plugged. Otherwise, you may have a bad clutch or band for reverse that requires a trans overhaul. good lcuk.
