Question about Dodge Pickup
A 'hot' fault is usually associated with an electrical failure of the crank and or the cam sensor. The crank sensor sits near the starter motor on the edge of the flywheel housing. The cam sensor is near the end of the cam shaft on the front (end nearest cooling fan) of the engine. Fundamentally when either the crank or cam sensors fail the engine loses track of when to spark and when to inject fuel respectively. I would change the cam sensor first as a) it the easiest and b) is most often related to hot start failure. his will cost about $30 and take about 20 minutes. If this does not solve the problem move on to the crank sensor. This is about the same sort of cost but will entail a bit more getting at and so budget about 90 minutes. When working on either sensor make sure the engine is cool, getting scalded is no fun.
