I have no power to the car. Tried to jump it but it acted like it didnt have enough power to turn it over. Lights came on in the interior but only slight sound in the engine then followed by clicking sound.

You need to use bigger jumper cables or connect them better. Also let the other car keep running while you jump, because the voltage will be higher with it running. after you get your car running, review my tips at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5925550-dead_battery_troubleshooting and let me know if you have questions.

I go to turn the van on and all i get is a click, all lights come on and battery tested out fine. Tried jumping it didnt work, mechanic took a hammer to the starter still didnt work. Any advice will help...

If the battery cables and battery check out fine then test for 12 volts at the signal wire at the starter when the ingnition key is turned to start. If 12 volts is present then the starter is bad or the ground strap from the engine to chassis is not getting a good connection. You can test for the the ground by placing a jumper cable to the negative battery post and the engine.

No 12 volts when cranking? Then check relay or ignition switch.

You can apply 12 volts to the signal wire at the starter to verify it will turn.

Do the interior lights dim when the key is turned to start?

1996 GMC JIMMY WILL NOT START: Turn the ignition and there is a repeated clicking sound. The interior lights, radio and power windows still function. Replaced the "in line" fuel filter under the...

It sounds like you probably have a shorted battery cell. This will not only cause the repeated clicking that you described, but it will also rob power when jump-starting from another vehicle. There is probably enough power when jump starting to turn the starter over, but after the starter take the power that it needs, there is not enough power to operate the computer system....so I have no doubt that you probably are not getting any fuel. The computer has to tell the fuel pump to run. If there is no power for the computer....I think you can figure it out from here.

Replace the battery and try it again.

Hi, I got up this morning to get into my 2006 Pontiac G6. I hit the remote to unlock the door and it didnt respond. I then opened it using key and no power to the car what so ever. I tried jumping it and...

By no power, do you mean the lights and other accessories don't even work? If so, I'm not sure that's a security system -- they usually only kill the starter, but I'm not sure about that one specifically. Try arming and disarming the system and see if it works then. If no interior lights are working, etc. you probably have a very dead battery or possibly a bad connection. Hook up the jumper cables again but leave them on with the working car running for 10 min or so, then try to start it. Batteries can get so dead that they won't jump right away, especially with light-duty cables.

Check the battery +12v power connection to the starter is in good order,
Check the ground connection between the battery negative and the engine/starter motor is robust and intact.
If no problem with above, replace the starter motor.

Steering wheel wont lock and car wont start

sounds like you need to either replace or clean the battery terminals. they are making just enough connection to work the lights but the load of turning on the key makes it lose what connection it has

1996 grand am wont start

the battery is dead, it's as simple as that. the battery only needs a tiny bit of power to turn on the interior lights and panel lights, but it does not have enough to dis-engage park lock out electric solenoid.
