Pry out the horseshoe clip at the base of the handle towards the front were you can not see it easily
Then pull out the handle and replace with a new one

The gear shifter in my 2000 Malibu wouldn't shift out of park. In anger and a desire to get to work on time, I used to much force and tore the top off. How do I replace it with a new one?

The handle locks into place with a plastic paw built into the base of the handle. removal is a simple matter of pulling up with force. some of them have a metal clip that slides into a small groove on the front of the shaft just down from the handle but i don't believe your year is that way. once damaged a wrecking yard replacement would be your best bet. Malibu, impala, cavalier should all interchange . as for your shift interlock. this is controlled by a cable that works from your brake pedal and ignition. you need to get this checked out or check it out yourself to find why it is not fully disengaging.

I removed the back seat seat cushion for cleaning and broke the two plastic latches that snaps the seat cushion down in the front. How can I replace those plastic latches on my 2005 Chevy Malibu?

most likely a local upholstery shop will be able to repair, but if you are handy several (black uv resistant) tie raps (cable ties) will do the trick too. Be creative the ties are very strong

Chevy malibu key stuck in ignition

I have a 2001 malibu the the key will not turn completely off(sometimes).
the key switch is on the dash and the shifter is on the middle console. there is a cable going from the switch to the shifter.
I found that if I disconnect the cable from the shifter and push the cable towards the switch, then leave it disconnected I don't have the key stuck issue and the switch will go all the way to the OFF position.
also there is a cylinder connected to the shifter, mine has had the wires cut(from a previous owner) you may need to unplug it.

The front of the handle has a large "U" clip. Use a screw drive and pry the clip out. It's a lot easier to do when the shifter is pulled all the way back to "1" or "2" but is doable in park still. The handle will then pull up. There will be a plastic piece in it that pushes down to release the lock in the shifter assembly. If when you push the plastic piece down it doesn't release the lock you will have to remove the shifter cover and take a look inside, to see what broke. It may require replacing the whole shifter assembly. You should be able to find the complete assembly used for fairly cheap.
