Yes it starts very eazily. It also idles good. He will drive for several days with no problems, and then out of the clear blue, it dies and the tach goes immediatly to zero. All but yesterday he puts it in neutral and starts it before he even has to come to a stop. Yesterday it cranked but would not start for about 5 minutes. Then it ran fine all the way home. (about 1 mile)

My son is taking it to Auto zone in Bryan College Station Texas. I told him to buy the parts aprox $19 each and ask the man at Autozone if he thinks any of the customers is good enough to change them out for him. I told my son to pay about $20 for labor. Is that fair.

Hi! Yes you may try replacing the distirbutor cap or rotor to correct this. Does the engine crank or run on idle?

I think that its not a distributor or rotor issue. Its sounds like that the car will lack fuel supply in any given time. This is caused by a faulty fuel pump. The fuel pump is bout to reach it's break point that's why it's acting unusual. You will need to replace it and see how it goes.

Ecm ecu computer is out on 99' chrysler sebring lxi

I have the same problem with my 99 sebring lxi, I'm getting a new ecu for the transmission and the engine, hopefully that fixes it. Did the car randomly die and wouldn't start again or when driving keep the transmission in one gear and wouldn't change?

check code probable p0340 camshaft position sensor. I have the same problem on 2005 sebring sedan. I was told to check the circuit at the crankshaft and camshaft sensors for the proper voltage. I'm still trying to figure mine out. If you find your answer, let me know.

Check the throttle plates and idle speed control motor make sure there both clean.

Also check manifold vacuum at idle the best you can hold an idle. I have run into timing belt being one tooth off and engine still ran fine. But the vacuum was low that's how I could tell the belt was a tooth off.

the camshaft sensor is not sold separately for a 2.5 engine,it is mounted in the distributor and you would have to replace the whole distributor!

1999 Chrsler Sebring LXi v6 2.5L. Car dies.

I had the same problem with my 1999 Chrysler Sebring 2.5L V6 Convertable. It started stalling at intersections; would lose RPMs' and die while driving it; and would not start unless it sat for a few minutes. Once it started, you'd have the scenario start all over again...

I hadn't kept up my maintenance schedule like I usually do, so I did the usual; I replaced my spark plugs and wires, changed the oil and filters, ect...

Finally, after it doing the same thing and wasting a ton of time and frustration on the side of the road, I took it to a mechanic that put it on his $9,000 diagnostic machine. The verdict; CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR!

The Haynes Manual will tell you wrong on its location for the 1999 Lxi 2.5L V6 convertable; it is NOT LOCATED BEHIND THE BATTERY TRAY. The crankshaft position sensor is actually located about 4 to 6 inches below the distributor, which is about dead center of the motor, on the transaxle housing.

You do have to take off the tire and the skirt cover to get to it. I had to purchase two long socket extensions just to get to the bolt that mounts the sensor to the transaxle housing; but it was well worth the 20 bucks...

All in all, it took me three hours to find the damn thing, and then to figure out what I needed to take the old one off and get the new one installed.

The $65 dollars that I spent to find out what the problem was is worth it....

Now, the car runs better than ever....

well to make sure it is the laternator start the car and pull the positive battery cable. if the car dies it is the alternator. and usually even on the new cars. it is easy to get to. just look at the front of the hood for the belt diagram and it will tell you how to release the belt.
