99 cr-v door locks have mind of their own

shared by 2 users

I've noticed the door locks on my '99 cr-v ex model automatically lock
themselves. The car has remote keyless entry. This happens sporadically
with no apparent pattern or cause. I had the dealer check the system but he
said everything was fine. The owners manual says nothing about auto door
locking. I did notice that if the car is locked, and I unlock it with the
remote but do not open a door within about 30 seconds, the doors lock. I
guess I can accept that as an undocumented security feature. But...this
isn???t the only time it happens. I???ve tried other patterns of
locking/unlocking but have not duplicated the problem. This is becoming
increasingly annoying. Anyone else having a similar problem? Thanks.

With my '99 1.6EL, the door locks also automatically lock themselves
after 30 secs if you unlock them with the remote. It's documented in
my manual I believe. It's a backup feature ... just in case you
unlock the doors accidently. It locks themselves back up. Another
possible scenario is you unlock your car but then remember you forgot
something and rush back to get it. The car locks itself back up so
that others can't get to it before you do.

Also, another funky feature is when I push down on the tab to lock the
driver's side door, it automatically also locks the other 3 doors as
well. Handy feature ... if you're gonna lock one you might as well
lock the others too right?

All in all ... I don't believe its a problem ... more of a feature.
It's better to have the car lock itself more than necessary then
having a car that can't lock itself. ^.^

I have a '98 CR-V and it's never had this problem. I have an aftermarket
keyless/alarm system without the auto lock feature. But, my Accord does have
an auto-lock feature which locks the doors when the engine is started.

Maybe you should look into getting an aftermarket system.

sporadically

Lining up cv joints in a 98 CRV. What is the trick to this little nightmare?
I had great respect for Honda until I came across this little gem.
Frustrated and out of pocket.

I had a similar electric lock problem on my 1990 Accord. First the electric locks would work intermittently, then one day they quit working all together. It turned out to be a bad solder joint on the lock control module circuit board. The relay terminal that connected to pin #3 was broken and was easy to locate by looking for broken solder on the bottom side of the board. After heating the joint with a soldering iron and applying a dab of solder it works good-as-new.
The door panel had to be removed, the lock control module removed and then opened. It was really a fairly simple repair.
