Question about 2005 Mini Cooper

2 Answers

Got dreadful noise like an aeroplane coming from the engine when I got home yesterday evening. I called a guy who has been servicing my husbans's car for 2 years which is this guys speciallity. I spoke to him and he said to bring it in on monday but to check the water 1st. The only water thing I could find was the engine coolant fluid. I asked a guy walking his dog if he knew anything about cars he said a bit and had a look he thinks its' the engine as when I reved up it had smoke coming from the engine, he cheked the engine oil thing and it's empty so he said maybe to top that up and leave it a few hours then he can look at it later. In the meantime I called bmw as the car had only done 39,000 miles and has the extra warranty on it although it says 5 yrs or 50,000 mls whichever comes 1st. The warranty expired on the 6th june 2010, do you think bmw should fix this given the very low mileage?

You must be an optimist,2359 is one min to midnight, the warranty is set in STONE as of 2359 on the6th june 2010.
as far as your "problem" is concerned you do check your oil monthly, dont you??? because if the guy dipped your engine and it had no oil showing it will not be a warranty claim,it will be "customer error....."and if you "wiped" the bearings with the lack of oil that will cost you a fortune....possibly a new engine...

well as the car was serviced by bmw in april and has only done 1,500 miles since then and is not due another one just yet then why is there no oil. The dip stick is showing that it is clean and showing that the oil is ok oil but the bit where you put the oil is where the smoke is coming from????

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer ls that has a ticking noise when you accelerate but stops when you brake no check engine light is on and vehicle seems to be running normal

Check engine lights do not come on for every possible fault. The noise you hear could be many different things, such as very small exhaust leak, a knock sensor just starting to fail, and others. Best would be if you could hook up a GOOD scan tool that will display real-time data and drive with a knowledgeable helper. Otherwise, you may have to make the dreaded trip to the dealer service dept.

Engine noise. Hi guys! I am from Russia, so first

First, your English is fine - better than many people whose primary language is English. I watched the youtube video and although the noise is not easy to identify, it does sound like a metal gear or roller noise. You said that you replaced the timing belt, but did you replace the belt tensioner? Also, you replaced the head, but did you replace the camshaft? I would suggest that you purchase an automotive stethoscope (similar to a doctor's stethoscope) and try to determine exactly where the noise is coming from. I can tell that the noise is coming from something that moves at the same rate as the engine RPMs, so that eliminates many items such as the manifolds that do not move. If you have power steering, check the power steering pump. Another possibility that could be the source is the flywheel and starter area. Sorry to hear you're having this problem and that you spent a lot of money unsuccessfully trying to fix it. Give the stethoscope a try and see if you can localize the noise. Good luck.

Car won't start even with a boost

I doubt it is a fuse. Is the security light staying on ?
The check engine light would mean the computer found a problem and has stored a trouble code. That code would be very helpful in tracking down the problem.
Meanwhile, if the engine will not crank, and you have 12 volts at the battery posts, you would then check for power at the starter. Could be a security problem, the neutral safety switch, the key switch, or other issues.

My 98 eclipse is making a screeching noise in the engine

The water pump is driven by the timing belt. If it has been over 100K, it is time for both to be replaced. If it is the drive belts, be sure to use factory belts, and use the proper tension.

My 99 Mazda Astina 323 (auto transmission) started making a rattling noise yesterday... went to my mechanic this morning and he said it was the timing belt. couldnt leave the car with him so drove home and...

have you thought about looking at the starter clutch, its possible that you need to have it replaced or a that the needs to be rebored, since it could be that your piston is what is knocking.
