Problem with the 1998 Chrysler Sebring

1998 Sebring LXI starting problem and rare stalling

My LXI which has been good to me has now stopped starting reliably.
Sometimes it starts fine and runs great, but sowmtimes COLD starting
it will take 5 to 10 tries to start it no coughing just turning over
and over and then it will start and run great. It has also stalled 4
times while driving, I put it in neutral and it started first try
while still rolling. HOT starting it will start then die three or
four times then runs great. Any input would be appreciated.

  1. Have a 1998 Sebring LXI Coupe and every now and again while starting to accelerate from a red light or any stop it would start to stall and seem as if it was not getting fuel, i replaced my fuel filter, spark plugs (they spark properly when touched on metal and car is trying to start) and all of a sudden while driving my engine turned off. All power was still on i.e. lights, radio, ect. I waited a second then cranked it up again and parked it. Later on i tried to start t again and nothin. The engine would sound to start but nothing would turn over, all belts are slowly rotating but engine will not catch. I replaced the battery just in case and yet the engine still does not turn over. Whats up?
  1. had similar problem on 2.7 2002 sebring go to speed up and would sputter
    like it was not getting fuel also would not start right a way just crank.car ran fine on highway.another sight said change the cam shaft sensor.so i did and it solved the problem.$89 hope this helps better than &500+ for a fuel pump + site said this is a problem area
  1. Similar story, stalling out eastbound in the middle of the Oakland Bay Bridge, limped in at 45 mph on the downward slope toward the toll plaza. Restarted, and it was fine. It's been doing that a few times before, but then I thought I had touched the gear stick perhaps while my hand was dangling on it. But this is getting weird now. What to do?

It sounds like you are having problems with your fuel pump or fuel nozzles.
You should either replace the fuel pump or get your fuel nozzles cleaned.
What, I usually do is buy a small bottle of mystery oil at the auto parts
store. It costs around $2. I will pour the entire bottle into my gas tank
and drive around. This usually cleans your fuel nozzles and cleans the gas.
You might want to try this first. If, it works than I recommend you put a
bottle every 3 months. I hope this helps.

I have a 2000 sebrind jxi and its not getting fire i changed the crank sencor and the distributor but its still not getting fire im from new orleans and its very hard to find someone to work on my car alot of mechanics here don't fix on these cars. one person told me that it could be the engine control module but thats located in the distributor please help or give me some ideas on what to do about this problem

I messed up and said fuel pump. What, I meant was the fuel filter. If, the
car is starting than it is not your fuel pump. Also, if, you haven't
changed your fuel filter in a while. You might want to change it. The fuel
filter is recommended to be changed at 10,000 miles. I have only had to
change mine once. My car now has 103,000 miles and no problem. I use
mystery oil all the time. It is worth it.
