Question about 2002 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Wranglet 4.0L. lately I've noticed the oil pressure gauge running near max. The users manual says normal pressure is between 45-65. My oil level is normal and I don't notice any leaks. The outside air temp is around 85 degrees and it's more noticable during highway driving near 60 mph. Any suggestions?

Oil gets thicker as it gets older,so pressure increases, try puting in sae10/40 simi synthetic with a new filter...the pressure 45-65 is an average pressure lower road speed lower pressure/higher means higher.....

I have the same issue. Happened at 74000 miles. Pressure at 60 at idle, 75 when driving. Changed oil, filter, no results. Do not want to take it to the dealership/crooks. Maybe sending unit? I am clueless.

IF it were a pump problem, you would have LOWER pressure,if its an oilway blockage the pressure would go UP.so using an oil additive/flush 1/2 day before an oil/filter change would, if it is a blockage, show up after the change.(redexe/wynns make the flushing oil)having said that IF the pressure sensor/sender was faulty, that could also show an increase in pressure if it was a resitance type unit.and i stand by what i said the faster the engine goes the higher the oil pressure will go.

Oil pressure

If the manual T gauge is giving a higher oil pressure reading than the gauge on your dash - believe the manual gauge.

The oil pressure gauge on your dash receives a signal from an oil pressure sensor. It may well be that the oil pressure sensor is faulty

Oil pressure gauge drops to zero when car slows down, sometimes will go up when rpm reaches 2800, otherwise stays at zero, when shut off and turned on again pressure would be normal

Hi assuming the oil filter has not become blocked, it sounds like the oil pump is not working properly. Of course it could be something more simple like a faulty gauge, sender or bad connection. But assuming again that the engine is suffering from oil starvation, I would get it checked quickly before you seize the engine completely. Good luck!

Oil pressure gauge high 1987 chevrolet blazer 350 5.7 liter

YOur best bet on a truck that old is to install a mechanical oil pressure gauge. They are available at any auto parts store or even Target or Walmart. Just buy the kit and follow the instructions. Mounting and routing the oil line is the hardest part.
It would be very unusual for the oil pressure to be maxed high in a 350 that is over 20 years old so i have to think the issue is the guage.

I;ve lost oil pressure the needle stay's down while driving, is the oil pump bad or going bad? is it located in the oil pan or the front of the 4.6L MOTOR?

If the needle is staying down and the motor is not knocking then the gauge is probably bad. If you run the engine with no oil pressure, then it will not last long. It will start knocking and ruin the engine. But yes the oil pump in in the oil pan. There is also a oil pressure sending unit that could be bad. It is located on the back of the engine.

I have recently purchased a 1997 Toyota

Unless you are in a cold part of the country, I'd suggest 10W40 or even 20W50 and see if the oil pressure improves. Mobil 1 will often yield lower oil pressure in higher mileage engines when hot. It's really not worth the money unless you live in near arctic conditions.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L oil pressure gauge reading too high

if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start

89 C4 911 gauges reading incorrectly?

These cars are funky and this is normal...gauges on all of the earlier cars are for general reference...checking the oil level manually while the car is running and warmed up is the most proper way to do this...generally speaking, your pressure should drop as the car warms up, but still reach 5 bar on full accelleration (928's have the same gauge). The oil level gauge will actually increase as the car warms up...the difference can be dramatic.

2002 2.5l no oil pressure on gauge. Runs fine...no

You better put a manual gauge on your engine and make sure you have oil pressure. Could just be a faulty gauge or sending unit but I sure as heck would be checking it with a manual gauge.
