Six IN LINE - 6L

zjlimited_510.jpg

Fig.: Cylinder head torque sequence - 6 -cylinder engine

Cylinder head torquing should proceed in three steps and in the prescribed order. Tighten them first to 50-55 ft. lbs. (65-71 Nm), then give them a second tightening to 60-65 ft. lbs. (78-84 Nm). The final step is to 70-75 ft. lbs. (91-97 Nm), at which they should remain undisturbed.

Six IN V - 6V

Fig.: Cylinder head bolt torque sequence - 6 -cylinder engine

Tighten the head, according to the illustrated sequence in three progressive steps. Tighten the bolts to 50-55 ft. lbs. (68-74 Nm), then 60-65 ft. lbs. (81-88 Nm) and finally to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm).

Hope this helps (remember to rate and commene this answer).

Torque settings for fiesta rs turbo cylinder head bolts and tightening sequence.

wow a real car ,1.6 crossflow engine ??about 75lbs and start in middle of head then one to the right and one to the left till you come to end oif the head ,Turbo ?? could be a bit more especially as this engine has a cast iron head ,cant be lot more though because the ford dorset engine turbo diesel is only 120 ,normal "D" series dorset engine is 90 .go to 75 and it feels ok leave well alone ,could push 80 but ?? remember the cortina 1600E with the bunch of bananas exhaust manifold

I have a 2001 land rover discovery II and I need the torque settings so I can put the engine back togather. Im not sure how tight to tighten the head cylinder bolts or the manifold bolts.

Do not reuse the old head bolts. These are torque-to-yeild type bolts and stretch when torqued down.

Starting in the center and working your way outward:

1st step - 15 ft-lbs

2nd step - 90 degrees

3rd step - 90 degrees

Head bolts torque settings

According to my haynes manual for G-S reg, 1989-1998 it goes as follows,
Stage 1:- Tighten all bolts by hand until bolt heads just contact cyl. head.
Stage 2:-Tighten all bolts to 40Nm or 30lb ft.
Stage 3:-Angle tighten all bolts a further 60 degrees.
Stage 4:-Angle tighten all bolts again a further 60 degrees.
Stage 5:- M12 x 140mm bolts ONLY angle tighten a further 20 degrees.
Hope this helps everyone, sorry it seems longwinded but that is how it's written in the manual.
