This depends on the market(its different around the world)some cars have a small switch on the dash which puts it into 4wd from stop to 21 mph.(it goes off automatically at that speed)some do not have a switch and the car will determine if one wheel is about to spin and transfer power to the other wheels...again at less than 21mph...
IT IS NOT A TRUE 4WD VEHICLE NOR IS IT QUATTRO.some other makes use the same system cos its cheap.....

I have a 1999 dodge sport 1500 4x4 and it makes a clunking sound like it is skipping gears when I engage it in four wheel drive at times. I checked all fluids and changed them and checked u-joints and all...

I have 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 limited. There are different 4WD modes available. I was wondering which 4WD mode is the most fuel efficient and how do you engage the different 4WD modes?
4 wd part time is the most fuel efficient becuase it only engages when the tires start to spin. to engage the different 4wd modes pull up on the lever next to the shifter and you'll feel it engage into to its respected modes. recommended you engage the 4wd while moving slowly except for 4wd low full time which you need to put the shifter into neutral before you can engage it. remember 4 wd low full time is needed when none of the other modes work.
