Husband did a service replacing all spark plug's and didn't number the lead's so now when you go to start the firing sequence is wrong and the car wont start

My husband did a tune up on my car yesterday and now it wont start it will turn over like it wants to start but it wont he said that its miss firing we have bought 3 new coil packs and still will not start...


If your car is miss firing and your husband changed the coil packs,the wires leading from coil packs to sparkplugs must have got crossed.This will change car timing which will result in the car miss firing.He needs to go over wiring and correct problem for car to run right.You can go online to autozone.com and type in Info about car to get the correct wiring layout.Your problem isnt the new plugs n wires.Its the wiring layout.

it may not be the spark plug it could be the spark plug lead itself or where it plugs into the distributer,check for corrosion,replace the lead,also check if the spark plug is full of carbon,if it is you may have a problem in that cylinder...hope this helps.....cheers

The firing order, which should be cast into the intake manifold, for the chevy small block V8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The firing order is the numerical sequence in which the spark plugs are fired. The insertion position of each spark plug wire around the circumference of the distributor cap can be found according to a clock face. The insertion sequence determines the firing order. The firing order is followed clockwise around the distributor cap starting from the 6:30 position with the 6:30 position being the number one cylinder spark plug wire.
On classic chevy small block engines that use ignition breaker points instead of electronic ignitions, the number one cylinder is the one immediately clockwise of the small metal sash cover on the distributor cap. The firing order starts here. There is no sash cover on the distributor cap for GM HEI electronic ignitions, and the firing order is the same, but starting at the 5:30 position.
The firing order makes sense if you know how the cylinders are numbered. The number one cylinder is the front most on the drivers side and 2 being the front most on the passenger side. From front to back, the cylinders are odd numbered on the drivers side, and even numbered on the passenger side.
See the diagram; Click to open a printable larger image in a new window. The firing order starts with the number one cylinder. We would connect the number one spark plug wire to the distributor cap terminal in the 6:30 position. distributor.pngSince the next cylinder in the firing order is 8 (passenger side rear), we connect the number 8 spark plug wire to the next distributor cap terminal (approximately 7:30 position) in the clockwise direction from number one. You need to be sure you continue the firing order in the clockwise direction around the chevy small block distributor cap from the last installed spark plug wire. Setting the rest of the firing order is just a matter of repetition. Be sure to count the spark plugs from front to back on each side of the motor to identify the correct cylinder number in the firing order.

I replace my spark plug yesterday but today my car won't start what can i do


if your car was starting up before you replaced the spark plug leads, my suggestion (as long as you put simlar plugs back in) is that the leads are around the wrong way........with the engine, if you have a 4 cyl, it does not fire 1-2-3-4, there is a particular firing order, eg 1-3-4-2, for a 4 cyl.

you did not state what vehicle you had, so i cannot tell you what the firing order is, and hence the correct position for the leads

Need firing order diagram.. wont start


remove the dizzy cap, crank motor over to find out the rotation of the rotor. Remove the no.1 spark plug and bring no.1 piston up to top dead centre on compression stroke, mark side of dizzy body where the end of the rotor points to, replace dizzy cap and see which lead it lines up with.
that will be your no.1 lead, find the firing order and put the leads back on the dizzy cap in the direction of the rotors rotation, run those leads to the corresponding plugs and it should start.

Hello darren625, the firing order will be 1-3-4-2, #1 will be at the front of the block,I am not familiar with volks wagon but you can disconnect the power (to be safe) turn the engine over by hand with plugs out for ease use a piece of stiff wire or small screwdriver in the #1 plug hole and you will feel the piston come up make sure it is on the compression stroke (you will feel air escape) when it is at the top before it starts to travel down that will be tdc (top dead center) the rotor will now be in line with #1 connect wires as per firing order and you should be good to go,hope this helps, good luck

1992 Isuzu Rodeo Distributor wires 3.1L engine


Hi,
Isuzu seem to have complicated things by changing engines, firing orders and even direction of rotation! As you can see, they've numbered the cylinders the other way than the 3.2L.

The Firing sequence for the 3.1 (traditional distributor) 6 cylinder is as follows -

If you take the distributor cap off, there should be a "No.1" formed on the inside. Stick a lead on this before you put the cap back on and go from there.
As leads are different lengths, you may have to swap a few to find the best fit.

I think 2 of them will look out of place - but that's the way it's designed. Just make use of clips for holding them neatly.
