I'd say unplug the stereo and see what happens. if problem goes away take car to stereo shop and have them look into it. If problem stays, put factory headunit back in and take it to your dealer and have car fixed, then figure out why your radio didn't work right, it sounds like you wired it wrong, or tapped into the computer that controls the traction control. did your factory radio control the vehicle's preferences? such as alarm settings/ theater dimming/ running lights stay on/off after ignition turned off for 30/60 secs? was one of the choices traction control? I had a new Impala for my company trip last week and the radio programed all the preferences, the same way you would program a '99-'2000 pioneer hu.
The solution is actually quite simple, in 2000 or 2001 depending on the year model, there is a data bus that is part of the radio. You MUST get a wiring harness for your new radio that includes this bus or you will run into a neverending multitude of problems that may even go as far your car's computer failing entirely. The harness is a little expensive at $89.95 retail but there really is no other way to go. This same problem applies to ALL GM VEHICLES after 2000 or 2001. You can find this harness at www.peripheralelectronics.com or many car stereo stores.

I didn't have a problem putting a new head unit in my Olds...of course, mine's an '89, and my factory cassette deck didn't work anyway... (Radio did). -- NP: Ohio Players -Funky Worm Brett Tyre [Computer Specialist] "My 98 is fly -I don't drive no junk" Chuck D e-mail:

I have a 99 Olds Intrigue and I replaced the head unit with a Sony ES deck, no problems whatsoever.. Have you tried disconnecting the head unit and seeing what happens????

yes ... if it is like the 2000 Cavalier or Chevy Impala, it's because the stock radio is part of the vehicle's data bus ... so if you remove the radio, the bus misbehaves ... in many fun new and wonderful ways, un-fricking-believable.
however, if it is done the same way as the Cavalier, all you need is to stuff the stock radio somewhere in the car with the orange, black, and purple wires connected and the buss will not know that it is missing from the dash ...

One thing that gets me is this:
How the crack do we do installs on cars today with crap in them like that radio? Or air bags for that matter? I honestly dont want to buy a new car only to find out that I cant install anything of my own or get stuck with some fuzzy factory system.

One solution is to gut the factory radio, install the core control and interface out of sight. Im sure there will be aftermarket interfaces/control boxes shortly. I don't understand what the concern with airbags is - it is a closed system with nothing to do with the entertainment BUS in cars.
away take fixed, then wired it control. did ignition turned a new
