This is usually due to either a faulty key or a faulty Drive Authorization System (DAS) control unit fitted behind the dash.

If you have 2 keys & both keys are giving the same fault with start error on the dash then it is likely that the DAS module is indeed at fault.

The car will need to be checked on Mercedes STAR diagnosis & if it is indeed this at fault then it also requires coding on STAR after installation. For exact diagnosis, you need to take the car to the dealer for the same.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

The fuel cap has nothing to do with the starting issue, but the fuel pump may.

Can a coil pack be on the verge of going bad and not firing enough to where the car won't start?

Yes it is possible. You really should start with the basics before spending any money.
When you turn the key to the on or run position (not start position), do all of the dash lights come on and especially the check engine or service engine light?
If so then step 2 is when turning the key from off to the run position, can you here the fuel pump run for approximately 3 seconds at the fuel tank. Sometimes you will have to remove the fuel cap and listen at the fuel fill pipe while someone else turns the key to the run position.
If both of those check ok, then you will want to verify spark while cranking the engine.
If any of those 3 items are not working, the car wont start. You will want to diagnose the item that is not working based on the descriptions above.
Good luck and respond back when you find which item is not working.

What does error code mean on the dash board of a 1998 Buick Regal?

What is the error code? Most auto parts places will read the code from the computer for free.
You may need to "jump" your car to start it, depending on how long it's been sitting.

Intermitent starting problem

Have you checked your ignition switch? Generally it is located "behind" the keyhole. It is a cylinder shaped thing that has contacts that might be worn or dirty.

Hyundai accent 2008 starting issue. I wanted to post this to help others Mentally & financially as this is one of those things I could have spent hundreds on. Instead my dealer said you can throw parts at it & hope, or wait to an error code revealed itself. In the previous month I had replaced all belts, plugs & battery as I'm at 130000k & just paid it off. Ironically a week after my last car payment .this starting issue began, Get in ,drive to a store ...get back in to go home no start. Timing belt was just replaced...not timing1 Plugs just replaced...not plugs. Plenty of crank ,,new battery. Starter turns 2 or 3 cylinders fire & quits. What the F---!Take to the dealer...mechanic says it can be 1 of 4 things but of course starts there for him every time. Serviceicon1.png desk guy says to wait for error code to show up. Well 2 frustrated months later same problem & no code. However he also had asked if Id seen an error code of a key inside a car stay lit on my dash, if so it meant a fault in the key reader, After being stuck twice in one day last Friday I decided to pull my plugs and check for loose or whatever. Long story short after putting all back together,,,same problem!!! Yet it finally came to me ...YES there really is an answer. As I turned the key I started focusing on the dash and what lights came on .1st turn Acc,,,2nd turn about 5 things light up including a pic of a key inside a car,,3rd turn of the key cranks the starter & turns over the engine. Well ,,,it finally occurred to me on turn 2 that one of the lighted pics was guessed it,,,little key in car. So I kept turning from key from 1 to 2 for lights on dash until it finally lit up an when it did I turned the key to start & it did. Shut it off & tried again but noticed pic missing and car didn't start, I had been waiting all these months for this **** pic to show up as an error code on my dash but the problem was ...sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't so because it hadn't faulted yet no permanent error code could be read. However now I know I need a new key reader because so long as that pic appears on the dash in 2nd key turn ,my car has no issue, when pics not there it isn't starting. Hope this helps others diagnose this simple yet frustrating problem, life's simpler when you know what to look for.

2001 chevy blazer turns over but wont run. new fuel pump, new fuel filter, door switch ok,have gas and pressure at manifold, have spark, runs for a second with the help of starting fluid

Try to do the crank relearn:
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure.
96-99 S10
1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start).
Allow the key to return to the all position (same as if the vehicle would have started). The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes.
2. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns oft) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt tostart the vehicle. The vehicle should start on this cycle.
3. Once the vehicle is running, the password relearn is complete.

00 + S10

3. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns off) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt to start the vehicle.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes.
5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start
6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle.
7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles.

Engine stop while driving, all assy. work, battery test ok, but code reader reads a connection error and eingine will not start or turn over, Any ideas?

Have you tried turning the key from the off to run position, press and hold the brake pedal, and put the truck into neutral, and try starting there ?

Could be a few things, but thinking the DTR ( Digital Transmission Range ) sensor is the culprit. This could also be an ignition switch problem.

The starter motor relay is on the fire wall, with 2 large battery cables to it, and one smaller 16 AWG wire ( orange or orange w/ a stripe ).
Take safety precautions ( block wheels, and have the key turner press on the brakes, while the truck is in park ), and have someone turn the key from off to start. The starter motor relay should have + DC volts on the smaller wire terminal while trying to start.

If you turn the truck to the run position and apply power to the smaller wire terminal, does the truck start ( again, take the safety precautions ) ?

This is assuming the PATS light on the dash goes out when you turn the key from off to run ( do not start ). If it does not , that should be a crank no start issue, not a no crank issue.

Turning ignition key there is silence....battery is ok as lights, radio come on strong. I keep trying, turning the key and moving gear shift et...and maybe it finally connects and engin fires and starts...

When this happens and the key is in the Ignition position, do the dash lights, etc come on? Could be the ignition switch is bad, and this is and easy way to tell. If the ignition is on and when we go to START, nothing happens, I would replace the starter/solenoid next.
