OK. WELL SORRY TO SAY BUT IT SHOULDNT HAVE DONE THAT BECAUSE THE BOLT SHOULD HAVE HELD IT IN. IF THE BOLT ISNT LOOSE U HAVE ONE OF TWO PROBLEMS. EITHER THE CRANKSHAFT IS BAD AND U HAVE MOVEMENT INTERNALLY OR THE BUSHING/BALANCER ON THE PULLEY IS DEFECTIVE WHICH WOULD MEAN THE PULLEY HAS TO BE REPLACED. EVEN WITH THE BOLT OUT 99% OF CRANKSHAFT PULLEYS ARE PRESSED ON.

I just have one question if the crankshaft was bad or had movement would the car run very good. The reason I ask is that the car run without any trouble with all the power it has always had.

I APOLOGIZE. THE CRANKSHAFT IS OK BUT THE THRUST BEARING COULD BE HAVE BEEN WORN. IT KEEPS THE END PLAY OF THE CRANKSHAFT DOWN TO THE THOUSANTHS. IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE U NEED TO KNOW JUST REQUEST ME. GOOD LUCK

Timing belt keeps breaking

Apparently there is a tensioner that is not keeping the belt taught and it is not centered correctly on the pulleys. Or the pulley itself could be cracked warped or nicked.. Check out all the components carefully. A small nick or crack can cause the belt to chafe and run off the pulley and snap.

84 vette, how do I remove power steering pulley to get the pump out?

Usually you have to take a pulley puller kit and just pull the pulley off the shaft. Installation is reverse, you use a threaded stud in the shaft to pull the pulley on with.

How do I get the timing right on a Acura legend.

You have to adjust the cam or cams depending on rather or not its a dual over head or single cam motor, with the marks on the crank shaft and oil pump pulley. You can get the timing mark diagrams from a chiltons book or off of Mitchell online. The only problem with mitchell is you have to subscribe to it. The timing cover must come off, the crank pulley also has to come off. When you get to where you can see the timing belt and gears you put the bolt for the crank pulley back in the crack shaft and turn the motor over manually with a ratchet and socket about 5 times until the marks on the cam or cams line up with the mark on the crank shaft and oil pump. If your car is not vtec then the oil pump pulley will not have a mark on it. This is something that probably needs to be done by a shop with technicians who have done it before. It can be a little confusing trying to do it yourself if you have never tried before. I hope this helps. What makes you think the car is out of time?

Power steering went out on a 2002 trailblazer. the serpentine belt was slipping off so I replaced the serpentine belt and pulley tensioner, still out. Pulled the steering pump, pulley shaft was broken....

Have you checked your tie rods? Possibility one is either bent or broken, I've seen it before on TB's. That pulley shaft is a common problem to break, especially when cold out. PS pumps/pulley shafts and tie rods will snap if doing donuts in the snow with the steering wheel cranked, or off-roading. The PS is completely mechanical, no fuses or relays.

What is a pully puller?

Pulleys are typically hard pressed onto shafts on which they mount: In order to release the pulley from the shaft, you need a 'pully puller' with fingers that evenly grab the pulley edges and via a central screw mechanism apply a very strong pulling force, in the correct direction, to 'unjam' the pulley from the shaft it is attached to. There is still a cracking risk to the pulley 'wheel'.

Hope the short explanation helps!

The plastic pulley on my power steering unit for a 97 Taurus is cracked (3 l 2v). Can the pulley be replaced or do I have to replace the entire power steering unit?

The pulley can be bought separately and replaced yes, in fact many pumps do not come with a pulley on them. Though caution must be observed when installing it because of the interference fit. The old one should be removed with a proper puller for this application if it has a metal center. otherwise that ring will be stuck on the shaft. The new pulley will have to be installed using the install tool... which in most cases will be either a 3/8" course thread bolt with a nut and a thick washer or the same in 5/16". Oil or grease is a must for the shaft as well. Using tools such as the ones in the link will make life much easier, but it can be done without them.

1996 Achieva starts then stalls after 2 mins. It is the 3100 V6 motor. The car will start and run fine for about 2 mins then it is like someone has turned the key off. Once it has stalled it will fire...

The only thing that you didn`t replace was the crack shaft position sensor. There are 2.One on the back of the motor and one by the crank shaft pulley. What you should do is remove the one in the back of the motor and look it over for cracks or swelling. This is the one that usually goes bad. Also you do not have to out die electric grease on this type of ICM nor do you have to do any reset for the computer.Check this out and let me know what you find.Good luck.

How to change a cluth fan on a 1996 GM astro van

If it is the type I am thinking about... (a hexigon shaft coming from the waterpump pulley attatching it to the fan surrounded by 4 bolts that hold the pully to the waterpump) with this design you usuially need a clutch fan removal tool. basicly a very flat wrench and a y shaped "holding" tool (this tool basicly grips the waterpump pulley by 2 of its bolts or 2 holes in some models and you use it against the force of the wrench to crack the two loose) basicly the hex shaft is partially hollow and has a thread on the inside it attaches to a short threaded part that pertrudes from the pulley mount when it comes off expect to catch the fan and hex shaft. be careful not to attempt this without either isolating the pully from the serpintine belt or otherwise ensuring that you arent going to turn the engine over manually if you slip. also in some similar models the hex shaft may be a left handed thread. in many cases some auto supply stores may lend you specialty tools (or rent them) with a small deposit, a gm dealer can tell you if that particular model and year will thread left or right.... hope this helps
