Problem for Chevrolet 1986 C2500
PLEASE help with tail light diagnosis

I'd appreciate a tip from somebody about this tail light problem
we have. This is a '96 Chevrolet C2500, the turn signal/stop
light bulb. Fuse checks out OK. Flasher seems OK. Wiring seems
OK. I put in a new bulb, and the FIRST time it's used, it burns
out. In fact, some of the plastic in the bulb base holder is
melted. Any diagnoses?

I think you answered your own question- bad socket and a dead short- nothing
else could make that kind of heat. Worth spending the ten bucks at NAPA or
wherever to get a universal socket, and grafting it in, before you go to an
electrical specialist or (shudder) the dealer.
