Question about 2005 Ford F 250 Super Duty

2 Answers

Put fuel in my 2005 f250 6.0 and added motor oil 1/2 quart to lube intake valves. Started this several months ago and have mixed feelings about it. I quites the vavles for sure, but my freinds are mixed, some do it and some don't. This time it started missing and blowing black smoke 10 miles after. Did I clog an injector. It seems to be hitting on all 8 when higher RPM's just at idol and low speeds it misses. I had Seafoam and put it in, it still misses after 1/4 tank used and now it blows blue smoke (Seafoam Smoke). Thinking about sucking all the bad fuel out of the tank and putting new in. Am I on the right track. If an injector is clogged, how do I tell which one and can I unclog it myself or have to buy new. Trying to keep my cost low. HELP PLEASE!!!!

It's not recommended to add any engine oil to your fuel. The result of doing that is the same as if you had worn rings etc..... It will cause the spark plugs to foul, especially in the quantity you are adding. If you want to use anything as a top cylinder lubricant I'd recommend using something like Marvel oil. You don't use a half quart though...only a few ounces per tank full.
As far as what you have now, you can either drain the tank or just keep adding fuel each time it gets used, even if it's only a few gallons at a time. That will dilute back what is in there and eventually the oil concentration will be low enough where the problem will subside. Oil is clean and will not clog or damage anything but as I mentioned, it will foul the plugs as it does not burn cleanly as does gasoline.

2003 caravan: malfunction indicator light came on while driving about 2 miles from home . engine oil down 1/2 qtTrans. Fluid OK. Gas filled up 40 miles ago. I notice a slight soft put put noise

You said you engine oil was low 1/2 quart? was it just changed? or does it use a little between changes? Sounds like a mis fire which would have to do with sparkplugs, spark plug wires and the coil pack. I have owned a 97 grand caravan.I know yours is the next gen but drivetrain were just about the same. I had a few fuel injector wires that would cause a mis every now and then. The check engine light will be the key, There will be a code stored in there that will guide you to your answer. If you have 100,000mi on it. Its time for a tune up.As for the 1/2 quart on the oil, sometimes "lube service" Fills to the full line on oil stick. The oil filter will hold just about a 1/2 quart. So if "Lube service" did not account for this, after you start your van and check the oil it will show just shy of 1/2 quart. I would suggest getting the engine code first (mfi lamp)

2000 buick lesabre has 64000 miles and uses a quart of oil in 3000 miles. Want to know what would cause this.

According to GM 1 quart per 1,500 miles is an acceptable oil consumption tolerance. 1 quart in 3k isn't bad.

I've had several gm 3.1 and 3.4 liters that have had there oil consumption issues remedied after the lower intake gaskets where replaced due to coolant leaking.

There are a couple of common problems that can cause oil consumption. Valve seals, bad rings, and PCV valves.

Valves seals would require a valve job which would requirethe removal of the heads. Rings would require a motor rebuild. Both of these are expensive options and oil is still pretty cheap.

Replacing the PCV valve might help. On the 3.8 it will be under the MAP sensor on the passenger side of the intake plenum.

As for as the intake gaskets, its a possibility but I don't have any hard evidence this could be the problem on a 3.8. Eventually the gaskets will start to leak oil. If you decide to replace them at that point I guess you will find out. I wouldn't do it on a hunch, its not a cheap repair.

04 Grand Prix oil leak

if it is not leaking then it is being burned by the engine, how many miles go by before you need to add oil?, if u are adding more than one quart every 1000 miles u have piston reing problems and or valve guide seal leaks. U won't see any smoke in most cases unless you are really going through the oil, like 1 quart every 300 miles.

Car started started loosing power and making funny noises 1 month ago, had someone check it out and it was three quarts low on oil! Had oil change done at time, now a month later same thing happened...

excess use of oil is caused by only one thing a badly worn engine or one thats been hammered by a previous owner like a rental car or sales rep ,worn rings and valve guides are the main reasons for oil use ,ps whats a quart ?? whats that in proper measurements like how many litres and do not forget the trunk is called a boot .

Ticking sound from engine

i doubt it is a lifter but it could be. they are of the hydralic type. it is probably one of the cheap plastic motors in the intake manifold. they always go out. a new manifold cost about 900 us.

2005 MAZDA 6 "using" or "burning oil"

This problem sounds like ablown head gasket, this would make the oil mix in with the gas and would result in discolored smoke out of the exhaust pipe.

Changed oil in 05 vw jetta and exhaust light came on.

Hi Dohn. The save levelto fill you oil is 3/4 from empty on your dip stick. This gives the engine space to breath. What has most likely happened here is, the engine has had too much oil and is trying to find a way out which will end up on your drive or through yor exhaust.
