Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
Does your car have an automatic transmission? Make sure the car is all the way in park.

This is a common problem with Cobalts. I worked in service at a Chevy dealer for the past 2 years...The long and short of it is your shifter assembly needs replaced . Try jerking on the shifter and slam it into park real hard sometimes that will get the key out.

Shifter locking dog fell out of bottom end of shift stick. Have to dissassemble centre console to access it.
