Question about 2002 Mazda Protege

2 Answers

I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 and had a tire blow out on me on the freeway in March. I replaced all of my tires at the dealer, but now have had the same thing happen to me. I managed to get the mechanic and he showed me that all of my tires were dangerously bald (on fairly new tires!). The problem is apparently in the struts. He recommends upgrading the struts which would cost me over 1000. The tires plus wheel alignment and an oil change are already costing me $650. Apparently, my struts should have been changed out at 50,000. My mileage is 68,000. The car has been regularly maintenanced at a Mazda dealer ever since I bought the car new, but the dealer never informed me that it had this problem. I've changed out plenty of things on my Mazda at this dealership for lots of money, but they never mentioned the struts even when I had my first blowout. I feel like I can no longer trust my dealer, but I also don't want to plunk down nearly $2000 on a random mechanic. Can what the mechanic told me be trusted? And is that a fair price?

Map guidelines do state that struts may be suggested around 50000 miles.I strongly disagree that your struts caused your tires to go bald.Loose front end parts can cause this and a bad 4 wheel alignment. My best advice would be to take to another reputable mechanic. An oil change and alignment should be roughly cost around 100 dollars give or take 30 dollars depending on where your taking you car and your location.

Typically a bad strut will cause the tires to get very choppy. The only way I can reasonably see balding problem like this occuring is if the strut actually got bent or the camber adjustment part of the alignment is way out of specification.

Ask the Mazda dealer, they have a preventive maint list and this should have been fixed before the problem started. Tell him about your tires , he can ck the maint. list and find out what happened. They usually guarntee their work and have insurance to take care of these things also the shop foreman usually ck's their work before the car leaves the shop. Be sure to tell them you bought the car there. In your book that came with the car tells the mechanic what needs to be done and he either initials the work or has a stamp to stamp the book.

P1250 and P1569 codes. Engine still running rough after complete tuneup. What should I check now. Any Mcguyver fixes? 2002 Mazda Protege5

1250 is the fuel pressure regulator and 1569 is variable timing control solenoid. Both will cause rough running. I would check the regulator out first.

What is the correct tire pressure for a mazda tribute with these tires 245/70/R16

First of all, don't exceed the maximum pressure that is marked on the tire.
Most cars have the tire size and tire pressure listed on a tag on the inside of the front door or the door jam. Usually the driver's side.
If you can't find the "official" tire pressure on the door or the owner's manual, you are pretty safe using between 30 and 35psi. I keep my 2002 Escape at 35psi.

2002 mazda protege5 blows headlights weekly usaually after a rain

it sounds like the headlight housing has a leak where the lens and the housing are joined. when it rains the water is going down in to your light housing and contacting your light bulb when you are driving. you can get a tube of clear silicone and run a bead all the way around the housing. also want to make sure you are putting the seal back in place when you are replacing the light bulb. good luck.

What kind of windshield wipers can I buy for my mazda tribute 2008? Can i buy them at Canadian tire?

Maybe so, but it is hard to find aftermarket replacement wipers with the right clip setup. I tried! It is actually more cost effective to go to the mazda dealer and replace the wiper blades. I paid 56.00 for both the front replacement blades and the rear one as well, and they installed them while i was completing the transaction!

2002 Mazda protege5 check engine light says faulty transmission tr switch. I'm told it is a job you can do on your own but how??? Transmission shop wants $150 just to see if that is the problem ...plus...

Well if you dont want to KNOW what it is, are you willing to lose money guessing? The TR switch COULD be bad, or out of adjustment, or the bushing for the cable bad. Its not to bad to replace. its right on top of the trans, but you need to know what you are doing. I would think its a dealer only part.

2002 olds aroura comp. readout says low tire presser.

Your tire has a pressure monitor located inside the tire, it is attached at tire fill valve. These are common to have errors, most of the you may need to go to the dealer to have them recalibrated or possibly replaced, some tire centers can recalibrate them for you if that is the problem. Would recommend contacting either the dealer or tire shop for further assistance. Hope this hlps

It sounds like you have a wear pattern in the tires. If the tires wear rotated from left to right this problem will be exacerbated because they are going in the opposite direction. If you can't live with it then rotate back to the original positions or replace tires
