It is in the timing cover. Never have seen one that has went bad. 20+ years at a buick dealership. Remove oil pan and clean out the pick-up screen, replace oil pressure sensor and use a ac delco pf47 oil filter.
Most cars hold 5 qts. There are a couple out there that hold more, but mostly trucks and suv's. And all of it is in the pan if the engine is off. Hope this helps.
In the oil pan,near the transmission end.The aluminum pan on this engine is cross bolted to the main bearing caps,making it a bit tough to get on and off.
