You will have to make sure the mixture screws are not blocked with a plug,if they are the carb, will have to be removed and the plugs taken out,but the mixture screws can be turned all the way in,with engine off. Then turn both mixture screws out two and a half turns, then start the engine ,and allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temp. Now,turning the mixture screw on the drivers side out,or in just a fraction at a time until the engine smooths out to the best running possible, then move to the other side and do the same.

DOES A 1987 305 CHEVY ENG HAS A COMPUTOR.

As long as it is a carbureted engine , simply change intakes and install your four barrel . Yes it is computerized , but will not interfere with carb swap .

Need to set up an evap canister in a 85 camero 350 4 barrel auto

Is this stock which would actually be a a 305 Camaro with a 4 barrel feed back Quadrajet?
Basically,
Vapor line from the tank to a Tank Pressure Control Valve (small round inline valve) then to the "Tank" port on the Evap canister (they are usually marked)

The other canister port marked "Purge" goes into a Vapor Contol Valve. That Valve has three more ports. One to the carb bowl vent, manifold vacuum and to a Thermal Vacuum Switch.
The last port of the Thermal Vacuum Switch connects to port vacuum from the carburator.

Just installed a holley 600 carb on a stock 305 Chevy truck 4 barrel is opening up but motor is bogging down should I go with hotter plugs advance timing or what?

Actually a Holley 600 is just a little too much for a stock 305. It would be better suited for a stock 350. You might try to lean the mix down a bit and reset the float a little higher. Holleys are good about dumping excssive fuel into the cylinders thus causing pitting on the cylinder walls. It would not hurt to advance the timing a couple degress then.

Which way does the filter go in on a 4 barrell carb chevy 305 motor none was in there and nor sure which in goes in first one side has a black like washer and the other side is solid flat

When you put the air cleaner (filter)opening/air intake should point towards the front passenger's corner where the radiator support and the fender meet. About six inches back towards the windshield on the right hand side there should be about a quarter sized hole in the air cleaner. There should be an elbow tube that goes to the passenger's side valve cover, from that black grommet hole.

My 1985 chevy 305 gets 4mi to the gallon

Check your ignition timing at 3500 rpm you should have about 40 degrees of advance If not, something is sticking in the distributor, either the vacuum or mechanical advance. This will cause a big reduction in fuel economy. Also, check your tire pressure. The cfm on a rochester is really not important. The primary bores are so small and they are the only thing allowing the mixture in most of the time.

I have 1985 pickup w/305 the problem is the carb. it burns alot of fuel the carb has a mixture solenoid it wont pass emissions should i get a older carb like from the 70's or what is going on my uncle had...

your uncles olds probably has a 425 or a 455 engine in it. anyways, your carb, either 2 barrel or 4 barrel, is 24 years old and is in need of an rebuild. you call call around for an estimate or buy a carb already rebuilt and that should solve your problem. the older carbs will not have the same emissions fittings/hardware and would probably not pass an emissions test.

Need to find a manual for a rochester carb 4 barrel e4mc electric choke for a 1987 monte carlo 305 engine

You should be able to find or order a Haynes manual, part # 10230, for Rochester carbs at you local auto parts store. If not then faxonautoliterature has the GM service manual for your car and it will have a section on rebuilding carbs. Hope this helps.
