If you need to add coolant, you do have a leak. Since your window fogs and have a smell, you heater core is leaking The reason the window fogs is that your coolant is moisture getting blown on to your windshield.

98 Pontiac grand Prix 3.8, over heating, antifreeze disappearing, transmission slipping, is it possible for transmission fluid to leak into the radiator?

Yes, your transmission cooler is inside of the side tank of the radiator. If your coolant looks like pink sludg, then there is a good chance that you need your cooling system and trans fuid flushed and a new radiator installed.

My 2002 explorer windows keep fogging up inside and does not go away when turn on defrost & my engine light is on like my heater core may be bad but I dont smell antifreeze what else could cause t

If it was me, the first thing I'd do is go check my fluid level in my radiator. I'd add fresh anti-freeze, if I hadn't done so in a year or more. Your defrosters won't work properly if you are too low on fluids in your radiator, OR your thermostat is malfunctioning. Replacing your thermostat might be a good job for a mechanic. Good luck.

Radiator fluid reserve is empty every few days, can smell it but do not know where it is going?? no fluid on ground.... checked oil and oil looks fine

  • Is the passenger side floorboard damp at all? When you put the defrost on do you smell antifreeze real bad? Windows fog? This would be a sign of a heater core going bad. A lower intake could have a leak too. Sometimes they leak slow and not all over so to speak. This can also cause a sweet smell in the cabin as well. Since you said the oil looks good we can leave out a cracked head, cracked block or bad head gasket.

  • Hope this helps.

Smelling coolant inside the car. windshield fogs up. no leak inside car but does leak outside off of frame on front passenger side. just replaced thermostat but cannot find a leak on any lines anywhere....

Hello razzamatazz2: My name is Roger and I will help with your problem. You are smelling a sweet smell and the windows fog over. The fog is slick and hard to wipe off and smears easily. You have a heater core leak. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the heater core. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Heater immediately fogs all windows and there is a sweet odor in the cab of 2003 Buick Rendezvous, defroster works fine, but will not clear the windows after heat is put on

Sounds like a possible heater core failure(hole in it) the smell indicates to me the coolant(anti-freeze) is leaking into the passenger compartment.
Check the carpet in front of the front passenger seat for moisture, this would confirm heater core leak.
Good luck !

Antifreeze smell and smoke coming out of vents

You have a coolant leak most likely in the heater core. Try disconnecting your heater hoses and coupling them together, then running the engine to see if the leak goes away. If it does, I would have the heater core replaced.
