I had the same problem with my 93 Explorer XLT...usually went away on it's
own. Couldn't find any correlation (worn pads, hard braking, spongy pedal)
so learned to live with it (although it diminished after I flushed the
entire brake system)

I have a 1995 E150 Conversion van my dad bought new. A few months after he bought it the same problem your having he also had. He took it to the dealer to many times to count..and bottom line was they could not find the problem. A friend of mine who works at a different ford dealership said they have 4 vehicles, parts trucks, plow truck, etc.. ALL of them had the same problem. They were all between 1995 and 1997's. I dont know if the problem cleared up after that or not? I pulled the dash panel on mine and pulled out the bulb for the ABS. It is almost always on, and the brakes worked fine so the light was just driving me nuts. I DO NOT suggest you do the same, I am simply saying it was my ONLY soulition to this problem. Good luck to you.

I had a '95 Windstar that did the same thing. The ABS light would come on
sitting still and the only way to reset it was to restart the engine. It
wouldnt happen all the time. I read the manual and it said that there are 2
possible problems that would cause this: 1. Electrical systems problem 2.
ABS engaged. The manual also stated that the ABS system sometimes will
miss a timing signal from the main CPU and and it would trigger the light to
come on. But it supposed to reset itself after 30 seconds.
I have to agree with RV that It is something in the brake system. I
found my master cylinder was half full so I put more brake fluid in and the
problem went away.

brake fluid was flushed . i think its an inherant problem that alot of fords
have and i'm suprised most people must live with this safety issue without
ever hearing about any ford solutions or recalls!

The only way to find out what is wrong is to pull a code from the ABS
module. If your explorer has rear ABS only, it stores a soft code which
means it re-sets every time your shut it off. Take it in while the light is
on and ask them to retrieve the code. It only takes a minute. The most
common codes on RABS ( rear anti-lock brakes) is code 4 and 9. 4 is usually
the rabs valve and 9 is usually the rear sencor on the diff. If its 4wal
(4-wheel anti-lock) it stores a hard code in the computer and will stay for
45 cycles of the ignition key. The e-250 is probably 4-wheel abs, codes
are hard codes, usually the HCU ( hydraulic control unit) that goes bad on
these.

Hope I've helped, good luck, Matt
