Vehicle overheating quickly. changed thermostat it ran fine for about 2 weeks, now it is overheating quickly again. no leaks are coming from water pump. Do not see any water leaking anywhere, but when it over heats the radiator will not have much water left in it.

Hi, check you have heat coming out the heater in the car put it on hottest setting and see what happens if it comes out cold then the chances are the head gasket has gone and is pushing gasses into the coolant system causing an air lock and then over heating.

check the oil for signs of a white substance look on the oil level stick and also inside the oil filler cap if their is any signs of milky substance then this is proof head gasket has gone.

let me know what you find out ok

I'm sorry to tell you that your symptoms indicate a blown head gasket or cracked head. I can't explain how changing the thermostat helped for 2 weeks tho--that's puzzling, unless these were 2 sequential failures of thermostat and head...

Antifreeze leak from rear of engine on pontiac grand prix

Rule out leak from water pump. What engine is it - 3.0 3.8. Could be intake manifold gasket. Have the cooling system pressurized, about 12 lbs. and look for leak, bubbles.
check oil for coolant in oil also. Possible head gasket leak.

If your having to put that much water in it I would lean towards a bad head gasket your other symptoms would make me think possible water pump. I'd check them both 1 of the 2 is most likely the prob or possiobly both. Good luck.

does it have the 3400 engine? check the oil to see if it has coolant mixing with it, they are known for bad intake manifold and head gaskets.

SOUND LIKE COOLANT FANS HAS A FAULTY THERMO SWITCH LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR ON LEFT HAND SIDE.CHECK THE FUSES 8 IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHECK FUSE 16 IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX.WHEN ENGINE OVERHEATING IF BOTH COOLING FANS WORKING.OVERHEATING PROBLEM COULD BE BLOWN HEAD GASKET.CHECK ENGINE OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK HEAD GASKET LEAKING.SEE WHEN YOU DRIVING LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS THE COOLING FANS SUPPOSE TO BE RUNNING.IF THEY NOT RUNNING THAT IS YOUR OVER HEATING PROBLEM.

There is a cooling fan switch normally located near the thermostat housing or in the head near the thermostat housing. check this and see if it is defective.

bad headgasket = water in oil (milky) or oil in water (foamy I think).
but yea, ah... I had a Ford once. My experience is that once something like this starts the only thing you can do to repair it is to buy a japanese car. lol
