I noticed a gear whine at ~ 75 MPH in our 2003 Sienna. It is not very loud, but can be heard. If I shift into neutral, the 'whine' goes away. It happens either accelerating or just taking my foot off the gas pedal (coasting) @ ~ 70 to 78 mph. I remember a 1986 Toyota Corolla (Chevy Nova) that had the exact same 'whine' frequency (tone), but was much, much louder. I hope that this doesn't get louder. Any thoughts? Please advise.
Take your vehicle to a Toyota dealer and have them evaluate the problem. Sometime things are not what they should be, that's why they have a warranty.

I have the same faint "whine" at "tip-in." But in the '03 Corolla, this whine is noticible in the 35-40 mph range and is there in OD/3/2 gears so that makes the source the final drive (differential). Nothing to worrry about.

Do you happen to have your car radio on, and on an AM station? If so it's the electrical system, e.g. spark plugs, EFI, etc. You radio is receiving RF bleed. Pretty normal.

My new 2003 Corolla LE and my older '94 Corolla both have the same transmission. Both have the low level whine but is only heard at 30 to 40 mph. The older car has 160,000 and the whine never got louder. I'm used to it and it may just be a common thing with the toyota tranny. I don't remember hearing it when I let up on the gas.
I would suggest it could be a altinator whine. The '94 corolla had a pretty loud whine when it had 38,000 miles. Ended up replacing the altinator and that fixed the problem. Corollafan

Hi, when I start my 03 toyota sienna, sometimes the idle is to high the dashboard shows 2000 RPM,sometimes it's low close to zero and the engine stops when i back-up.I cleaned the throttle body yesterday thinking it would fix the problem but it did not.usually when I start it in the morning the idle is high, but when the engine is hot during the day the idle is low.before i cleaned the throttle body the idle was either normal or low.I say normal because the dashboard showed 1000 RPM or low at almost zero.Does anyone know what i should do to fix this issue? Thanks.
