Question about 1996 Oldsmobile 88
Sputtering is the
indication of clogged fuel filter and worn out fuel pump.Get the
fuel pressure checked at any local car garage .If the fuel pressure
checked low then its the problem of clogged fuel filter and blocked/worn out
The oil pressure switch determines the oil pressure in the engine and sends that information to the driver through the gauge cluster. When a sudden loss in oil pressure is detected, a light goes off, and you should immediately turn off the Vehicle.
The oil pressure switch located just behind the starter on the engine. This is between the starter and the oil filter, mounted on the engine block. Unplug the wiring harness, connecting it to the vehicle. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation

First there is no erset switch for any General Motors vehicle made. Next set the ignition key to the ON position. Do not try to start the engine at all. With the KEY set to the ON position listen to hear the fuel pump priming for 5 seconds. If that is heard the OIL Pressure switch circuit to the pump is doing its job. If not heard you need a new OIL PRESSURE SWITCH. If the priming is heard as stated before the fuel pump relay is at fault. You can test the pump direct from a test lead on the drivers side inner fender well. It will be a red wire with a black connector at the very end. Connect a wire to that and connect that wire to the positive battery terminal. You will either hear the pump run or not. If not check the fuel pump fuse. If that is good replace the pump instead

If you dont care about springing for parts then i would try a new relay switch first and if that doesnt solve your problem then replace the fuel pump itself, but seeing as its a 96 and depending how many miles it has on it it could just be the fuel pump itself, i would be able to help alot more if you could be more specific, eg. how many miles on car, specific problem, will it start, does it stall etc.
