Question about 1996 Oldsmobile 88

1996 Oldsmobile fuel pump in gas tank and we were going to replace it this weekend. However, it may be that there is a reset button in the trunk of the vehicle and we want to try resetting the fuel pump switch before we begin working on the vehicle. Also, could the problem lie with the fuel pump relay switch that is located near the dash? How should we proceed?

I am getting the information you requested. Can you tell me anything about a reset button in the trunk?

When we finally got it running we heard the fuel pump priming and now we don't. We replaced the fuel pump relay to no avail. Where is the oil pressure switch located? Where is the fuel pump fuse located?

The vehicle has 138,000 miles. The symptoms are that it will run but then it sputters as if it has run out of fuel.

Sputtering is the indication of clogged fuel filter and worn out fuel pump.Get the fuel pressure checked at any local car garage .If the fuel pressure checked low then its the problem of clogged fuel filter and blocked/worn out fuel pump.
The oil pressure switch determines the oil pressure in the engine and sends that information to the driver through the gauge cluster. When a sudden loss in oil pressure is detected, a light goes off, and you should immediately turn off the Vehicle.
The oil pressure switch located just behind the starter on the engine. This is between the starter and the oil filter, mounted on the engine block. Unplug the wiring harness, connecting it to the vehicle. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation

First there is no erset switch for any General Motors vehicle made. Next set the ignition key to the ON position. Do not try to start the engine at all. With the KEY set to the ON position listen to hear the fuel pump priming for 5 seconds. If that is heard the OIL Pressure switch circuit to the pump is doing its job. If not heard you need a new OIL PRESSURE SWITCH. If the priming is heard as stated before the fuel pump relay is at fault. You can test the pump direct from a test lead on the drivers side inner fender well. It will be a red wire with a black connector at the very end. Connect a wire to that and connect that wire to the positive battery terminal. You will either hear the pump run or not. If not check the fuel pump fuse. If that is good replace the pump instead

If you dont care about springing for parts then i would try a new relay switch first and if that doesnt solve your problem then replace the fuel pump itself, but seeing as its a 96 and depending how many miles it has on it it could just be the fuel pump itself, i would be able to help alot more if you could be more specific, eg. how many miles on car, specific problem, will it start, does it stall etc.

Is there a reset button on a GMC Savannah 1500 van and where is fuel pump location?

There is no reset button if you mean like a fuel shut-off switch or fuel inertia switch. Only used by Ford as far as I know. I've never heard of one on a GM product.
The fuel pumps have been located in the gas tank since the beginning of fuel injection systems back in the 1980's. Some GM cars since about 2000 have a special access plate in the trunk area just above the gas tank, for fuel pump module removal. Previously, the only way to replace a fuel pump was to remove the tank from the vehicle. That is probably the case in your van, but check for an access plate in the floor, just above the fuel tank-just above the small opening in the tank where the pump is removed.

How are is a fuel pump to replace on a 97 Lumina and can you go through the trunk?

All most all fuel pumps are removed from the top
of fuel tank

That requires draining & removing the tank
from car first.

You would have looked in the trunk before
asking the question !!

Where is the location of the fuel float on a 1996 toyota corolla

it is inside the gas tank, part of the sender unit. you have to take the tank out of the car in order to replace it. while it is out of the car do yourself a favor and replace the fuel pump too so you do not have duplicate labor when the pump goes out next year. before you go nuts, pull the liner or carpeting out of the trunk and make sure your car's trunk does not have a service access to the gas tank.
generally gas tanks are mounted under the trunk.

The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank so to replace it the tank will need to be dropped out unless there is an access plate in the trunk.

There is a whining sound coming from the trunk the car is having a hard time getting up to speed i think its the fuel pump where is it located and is it hard to change the car is an 1996 oldsmobile aurora...

The fuel pump is the likely source of your noise. Its not difficult to replace as it is mounted in the top of the fuel tank, very much the same as a fuel gauge sender unit. You should be able to access the pump either though the trunk of under the rear seat. Be careful working with petrol as it is very dangerous. Make sure your gas tank is almost full before you start, and work out in the open with all the car door open. Note: before you do anything, remove the negative battery terminal from the battery.

1996 oldsmobile aurora its been sitting for 6 months changed all the basics spark plugs, wires etc. Started it with starter fluid.it started but when i pressed on the gas it stops.has a new fuel pump. but...

It has a new pump, but you dont know where it is? Its inside the fuel tank. If its been sitting, and the pump is getting power and ground, the pump could be stuck with gasoline. You cant let cars set, or the pumps will gum up. The relay is under the rear seat. The one good thing is that the pump is accessed by a panel in the trunk.
