Question about 2008 Nissan Rogue

1 Answer

Kid left key on all night battery ran down. Charged battery, battery accepts charge and spins, almost cranks but does not. There is no clicking noise. It is not the battery. Could it be the fuel pump or a reset fuse?

Problem solved. Removed both battery cables, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then hooked back up cables and it cranked right up. Thank you for your quick response.

Tried and did not work. Engine turns over fine but I do not smell gas. Car is parked on a very slight grade. Would you get it on flat ground?

Cant remove key

Try the reset for the key switch , hook up battery charger or maintainer to battery then turn key on do not crank engine leave key in on position for ten minutes , repeat a total of three times then turn key switch to off position after third cycle then remove key . Then reinstall key to ignition switch then crank the engine over and see if that fixes your issue .

Starter does'nt work right

The battery could still have a dead cell and be charged. Just not enough to crank the engine. Or it could be something like the neutral safety switch or key switch. You would need to test the battery and check the starter posts to see if you have battery voltage present.

After sitting for a while I can get about 2 normal sounding cranks when I turn the key and then nothing. I still have power so I don't have a clue. It started when my wife pulled out of the driveway...

no ,you dont have power.
the battery uses 100 to 500 amps to run the starter.
normal is 100amps , on warm day. really the starter is the ACID test of any battery.
the ignition uses 5 amps. (nothing) same with lamps. trivial currents.
the battery is not charged, , so charge it. or...
if the battery is bad , it will not take a charge and hold 12.6volts.
try a known good and charged battery in car. that work?
yes?
then either the battery was bad, or you left on lamps?
or the charge system failed and battery drained.
bad cranking 101
1: bad battery.
2: discharged battery (or any reason)
3: bad battery connetions, corroded lugs.
4: charge system failure.
5: phantom drain (dark current) or left on lamps over night.
1: put in fresh good battery.
2: start car, is voltage across battery terms near 14.7v?
yes, good charge system.
no?, its 12.5v, charge system is dead.

Bring the new battery back to where you bought it and have them check it. Check that the neutral wire (black) is secure to the engine frame. Also check that the wire ends are clean before reconnecting.

Find the alarm and disconnect it, or locate the fuse to the alarm and remove it. Then you can charge the battery without all the noise. Once the battery is charged, hook the alarm up and disarm it with the remote.

It sounds like your battery was so far gone that it's going to take it being actually charged up rather than jumped at this point.
