Question about 2005 Jaguar X-Type

1 Answer

I HAVE AN X TYPE 2005 JAGUAR AND THERE IS WATER DRAINING IN ABOVE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSCREEN. I DID HAVE A NEW WINDSCREEN FITTED 11 MONTHS AGO! NOW THE ELECTRICS HAVE GONE IN THE INTERIOR ROOF COMPARTMENT. CAN I CLAIM FOR DAMAGE FROM THE WINDSCREEN COMPANY? OR IS IT SOME OTHER PROBLEM? THE WELL OF THE PASSANGER SIDE IS WET ALSO UNDER THE MATT.

Most reputable companies will give you a 12 month warranty on their work. But i would call the installer and ask about warranty info and tell them you have a leak without mentioning the electrical issues. Once they commit to warranty and get your Jaguar back in, then make the complaint about the damage. Stand firm.

Leaking water

At the base of the windscreen there is a gutter (Phelumn chamber)that drains the water out and down past the front wheels in side the mudguards. This gutter blocks up with dirt/ leaves /insects and will rust out and allow water into the cabin area especially if you are in an area that used salt in winter on the roads

I would start at my coolant hoses there is one on the rt side of the car check coolant overflow hose and the bottle check heater hoses as well or it might be that the pump isn't sealed or something could be left loose

Just had a new windscreen fitted on a jaguar x type should there be a seal at the top of the screen to the body work. paul

The horizontal (top) edge of the glass should have an extruded piece of rubber trim which sits up against the roof edge (bridging the gap between the two edges). Sometimes it is not immediately visible - are you sure it's not there?

X type heated front screen - only passenger side clears this is the second screen to have this problem in the same car 2008 vehicle

As this is a 2008 car you should be covered by warranty. It needs further investigation into the wiring and control relays. The chances of two faulty screens so near together is highly unlikely so the fault probably does not lay with the screen, maybe the installation was not up to scratch and a connection or cable issue is involved. Take it back to Dealer or windscreen supplier - it should be their problem - not yours. Good luck.

Have the windscreen resealed. A tempory fix is to tape around the windscreen joint with a wide PVC tape to prevent the ingress of the water.

Snap-on Parts replacement

I think you are descibing the headlamp wash system that is missing between the headlamps. The theary is that every 7 times the windscreen is washed the washer jets pop out from the bumper and blast the headlamps with water. They were fitted as an extra rather than standard so if the cost of replacement is to expensive it would be favourable to just replace the plastic cover to hide the hole. You may find that the water jets are in place and its only the small plastic cover that is missing. The grill under the licence plate mount is mainly cosmetic but care should be taken incase other adjoining parts are loose. Hope this helps.
