Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

Open Question

I have a Nissan Maxima...Suddenly developed problems with my heater --- only blows heat at 85 degree setting and highest fan setting. Seems like it's the blower resistor, but I don't know if it's something I can replace myself and if so how?

I think I spotted the Blower resistor under the glove compartment and
it seems like it can be accessed and removed without removing the glove compartment.

The remaining challenge for me --- is a stupid one --
how to remove the electrical wire harness plug from the unit. I tried pushing, pulling and
wiggling to no avail. Is there some specific technique to do this?

Now it seems more and more like it might not be the blower resistor

I did the ac auto diagnostics and nothing came up abnormal.. The pnly possible exception is the evaporator exit air temperature which came up at 131F which seems abnormal. Could the problem be a sensor in the evaporator, even though the diagnostics revealed no problem with any of the sensors??

SOURCE: Where is the blower resistor on a 2001 Nissan Sentra?

Its actually not that bad to change. If you open the glove box and remove the screws then the screws along the bottom of the glove box at the bottom of the dash the box will slide out. Remember to disconnect the light if it has one. Now you will be able to see the underside of the dash. You can see a large black box that has wires and vacuum lines all over. You need to locate a small flat plate with two screws and a plug in the middle. Disconnect the plug and remove the screws. The resistor will come straight out. The back side will look like small coiled up springs of different sizes. Install in reverse.Hope this helps. Good luck. Please re-post with updates. Thanks cj2176.

SOURCE: I bought the new blower motor resistor for my 95

The blower resistor should look like a credit card if it is manual air and it is located near the blower motor. Remove connector and then two screws and it should slide out. Replace with the new one. If you have auto air then the blower motor is regulated by a fan control amp which is located behind the glove box.

if your blower motro only works on the #4 setting you need a resistor.cheap and easy to change.located next to blower motor under pass. side of dash.two phillips screws secure it.if it fails again replace blower motor as it is drawing too much current and overheating resistors.let me know how it turns out.

Could be the radiator fan. Running the heater adds a second source of getting rid of heat in the coolant. Is the radiator fan running when it is hot ? Are you sure the cooling system is full ?

No heat is coming out of the vents. I can turn my heat up to 80 and still nothing

If no air is blowing out the vents at all, your blower fan motor could be bad.

TURN ON HEATER, FAN BLOWS BUT NO HOT AIR

Check coolant level. Some maxima's heater core were highest point in cooling system. Or hot water valve may not be functioning.I would start with checking the level first.

The heater does not work on our 2000 Nissan Maxima. The fan blows air..but no heat. What could this be and what could it cost for repair?

make sure cooling flued is filled to the maximum . Is this no cure .maybe your heater crane is stuck and warm water is not comming through. find the crane at the heater radiator or just in front of where the heaterhoses go to the interior. it is possible that Nissan installs a electronic heater crane. then the only way to fix it is to fit a new one. hope to be at any help to you

How to replace thermostat on

Do this when cool. Take radiator cap off, start the engine, turn on heat (not defrost) and now top up coolant to about an inch or 2 from top of radiator, as level drops down, and let vehicle run until the radiator fan comes on, then off, about 3 times, and add coolant as needed while it's running. After that, put radiator cap back on tight & make sure return bottle is filled to proper level. Now try that & see how heat is, temperature gauge etc, and keep an eye on return bottle level for a while. Let me know how it is.

No heat

There is a heater control valve mounted on fire wall with a vacuum house connected to it, most of the time nissan heating problems is due to this valve being bad. You can open valve manually by moving lever to open position. and hold if heat come up problem solved. If not get back to me and I will be more than happy to help. Good Luck
