Question about 1998 Cadillac DeVille

1 Answer

The ABS light always comes on, sporatically, sometimes the ABS kicks in for no reason at all. Now the coolant light comes on no matter how much coolant I put in. Last time I drove it , it started to overheat. could these be connected somehow?

Had a simalar problem with the ABS in my shop, with a toyota , turns out the geared ring on one of the front axles was broken from the axle and could spin frely causing the front sensor to misread the behavior of the vehicle, thinking the brakes were being locked up, i corrected this problem by replacing the axle that was causing this , my suggestion would be to clean all the sensor first, they are magnetic and sometimes acumulate alot of metallic dust, and if that does not work i would then have the axles checked.

Could me leaking coolent be the reason the car cuts off from abs an break light comeing on

No.... A coolant leak will have no effect on ABS operation unless the coolant is dripping into wiring harnesses that control the ABS and this would be highly unlikely to happen

2002 Altima, jerking when driving, ABS kick in, ABS. Tracking Control and Slip...

My 2002 Altima Sometime the ABS kick in even though in a nice sunny dry road condition, sometime jerking when driving (doesn't matter high or low speed), sometime ABS. Tracking Control and Slip lights all on at the same time.

I did a lots of research over the internet, not much firm solution I can find. A lot of tech suggest the ABS sensor, MAF sensor, Spark plugs and/ or wires, Fuel injectors, Cad converter, etc. but no one know what is the exact problem is because it only happened intermittently.

But if I unplugged one of the ABS sensor, the ABS system will disable, the ABS. Tracking Control and Slip lights will all turn on, but the car have no more jerking and ABS kick in problem. So it will not be the MAF sensor, Spark plugs and/ or wires, Fuel injectors, Cad converter, etc.

To diagnostics and replaced a ABS sensor are very expensive, especially everyone said, when removed the sensor, 99% of the time the blot will break, it need a lots of time to get the remaining bolt back out, that is one of the reason which causing the repair cost so expensive, take up to $300 to 400 to change one sensor.

I am going to show you how to replace both sensor in a very cheap way.

Most of the forum I found and the majority possible problem cause are the rear ABS sensors. Not quite sure left or right, so I went to the Pick and Pull yard to bought a used pair of rear ABS sensors, it cost me CND$30.00, $15.00 each. Way cheaper than you take it out to just get diagnostic.

Follow the sensor wire and plug to replaced both sensors. My car run perfect now, no more jerking, no more ABS kick in by no reason, no more warning light turn on anymore.

Now comes to the biggest problem, when I removed the old sensor, I knew the bolt was going to broke. How can I re-tighten it back? No problem, just let it broke.

This is the way how I fix it: cut a piece of solid electrical wire, about 7 inch long, peel off the wire skin, I only need the copper wire (because copper wire is rust and heat proof).
Unscrew both bigger wheel bearing screws beside the sensor.
Bend the copper wire wrap around the screws, the middle of the wire need to put it through to hold down the back side of the sensor, when tighten the screws back, both screws will tighten the wire and hold down the sensor.

It is very hard to explain , I am going to attach some pictures to show everyone. Basically, with the tax I use around $32.00 to fix the problem.

Sorry about the last picture is quite fuzzy, it is hard to let my camera to get it focus properly, but you should be able to see it.

Because I already did mine, so I just use another screws to show everyone in the pictures how to do it. Also sorry for my English, hope every can understand what I mean.

Bend it and wrap around the screw (in clockwise direction because it will be tighten in the same direction), cut the excessive length of wire if need

After bend will be in S shape.

Will mount it back to the car like that.

Finished, when tighten both screws, it will hold the sensor down tight.

Why is my ABS system kicking on for no reason on my 2009 trailblazer?

There is ALWAYS a reason.
Reasons that the ABS light will illuminate:
  1. Brake pads, brake shoes, rotors, or drums worn beyond allowable specification;
  2. Brake fluid level low, or brake fluid leaking;
  3. Failed ABS control unit;
  4. Failed ABS sensors at wheels

Abs light flashes and i fill it in my brake peddle sometimes it's like my abs is kicking in.

When the warning light comes on it should store a trouble code in the computer.
You would need to have the computer scanned to proceed with testing.

My 99 grand am anti break and traction warning lights come on for no reason and kicks off my cruise...doesn't matter if I have traction or not...any ideas?

Yes . Most likely one or more of the wheel speed sensors is faulty and needs to be replaced. If these are faulty the ABS will not work and you will get the ABS warning. These should be checked first.
Then the anti lock braking system pump should be checked to ensure it is operating. If it is not you will get the ABS warning.

Abs and traction control dash lites come on and off at various time..sometimes never come on

Your abs and traction control lights should only come on when you start to slide while breaking(ABS), and when your wheels spin in place when excelerating(TC). If those 2 things don't happen, which with some people they never do, you should never see the lights come on. Only when those mechanisms are in use do the lights come on. And they will always flicker as that is what abs and tc are, intermitant surges to break up the constant. ABS does this for obvious reasons...anti lock break, so when you slide, the abs "taps" the breaks in short bursts so they don't lock up. TC "taps" the exclelrator when it slips. Those "taps" are what trigger the lights on your dash, which is why they flicker and don't stay on.

My service traction system warning light is on. What causes it? My ABS warning light remains on at all times. What causes it? My low coolant level warning light comes on often. The expansion bottle is...

Most traction systems have sensors at each wheel. These detect wheel spin (can be a loose connection, broken wire, dirty sensor) The ABS won't work for the same reason but your brakes will work fine without ABS. (as long as brake fluid is full) The expansion bottle should have some coolant in it as well as the radiator. My experience is the bottle has a low level sensor that can get dirty ( If it was full) But you seem to be losing coolant? Is the lid on tight? Do you ever see coolant on the ground or in the engine bay? Sorry that's a mystery from here. Hopefully it is not disappearing in your engine. That would be a bad head gasket!

ABS LIGHT COMES ON SPORATICALLY, BRAKES DONE, ABS OK

I had this problem.
When they test the ABS with the car not running the ABS was OK.
When the take the car for a drive still hook up to the tester, they find that one of the wheel sensor was bad.
I replaced it and every thing was OK.
