Question about 2008 Dodge Caliber

Open Question

2008 dodge caliber - Problem is the car will crank and take a long time start. This does not happen all the time but at least 1-2 times a day. The Malfunction Indicator Light comes on quite a bit now (gas cap is always clicked). Took it to Dodge dealer in 2010 twice (kepted 2 days each time) and both times car started right up and they never found anything wrong with it. It is now over the warranty. I took it to Pep Boys and they said the intake gasket was leaking. Had it replaced and it still continues to have starting problems. Do you think I have a problem with the fuel pump and is it on the gas tank? With all the technology why can't I find the problem?

SOURCE: pep boys wants 900 to fix oil pan gasket how can i do it myself

You need to get the motor up high to get the pan out, and if its a 4x4 the front axle is in the way too.
And dont let pep boys do this. Most of them are kids still in high school or they cant get a job in a real garage.

My 2012 Dodge Caliber will only turn but will not start - the fuel pump is working, I replaced the starter; the battery does die when I crank a few times. I have also checked the fuel line working good....

the answer to your problem is in your explanation of " the battery dies when I crank a few times". Have a load test done on the battery for a failing cell. A failing battery will only supply enough power to crank but not enough power to run the ignition system. Power takes the path of least resistance and as a starter is a controlled dead short there is too much resistance in the ignition system so the car will not start.

Electronic throttle control light on 2008 dodge caliber

I had the same thing happen to me about a week ago and it was the Electronic Throttle Control. It will stick due to carbon build up. Car was towed to the Dodge garage and ETC replace and carbon cleaned out. Cost me $658.00. Yep that's a hefty price to pay but so far no other problems.

2011 Caliber excessive cranking at starting

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

If you like your car, change every 2,500 miles. Manufacturers say longer, and that seems to work, but oil change is pretty cheap compared to oil related failures...

Wont always start

Did anyone check the clutch interlock switch? It's possible the position is out of adjustment. My 2008 SRT4 is right at the bottom. If you don't push the clutch ALL the way down, it won't start.
