Hi, if rear wheel drive. loosen wheel nuts DO NO TAKE THEM OFF place (IMPORTANT TO SECURE CAR) bricks front and back of front wheel. then jack the car up take the wheel OFF undo philips screw holding disk on. the brake caliper needs to come off DO NOT TAKE BRAKE FLUID FEED OFF THE CALIPER and the hand brake cable. once all parts are off there should 4 bolts holding the back plate take these off. you will need a HEAVY SLIDE HAMMER TO EXTRACT HALF SHAFT. if you have seperate hand brake the brake SHOES need to be removed. TAKE NOTE OF SPRINGS. SHAPES, AND WHERE AND WITCH WAY AROUND THEY FIT. SHOULD NOT BE ATEMTED BY NONE MEHANICAL PERSON IT IS VERY DIFFICULT AND BRAKE SAFTEY MUST APPLY. gerry

If they're drums could be rust on the drum rubbing on the backing plate, or a loose brake component rubbing inside the drum.

Hello all, I've bought a 57 reg V70 that has a rumble coming from the nearside underframe. All suspension bushes, etc. have been check and nothing found wrong. The noise is there all the time, not just on...

first thing to come to mind is a wheel bearing, being a noise that 'rumbles'-jacking it up, one wheel at a time and turning by hand might reveal which wheel is making the noise. Does the noise 'change' with speed, or braking? Noises are tough over the internet, but your description leads me to think they need to be checked first.

I have 2 questions...1. I have a 2001 Volvo V70 wagon automatic that hesitates before going into 1st gear. 2. I am hearing a noise that seems to be coming from my left front wheel. Maybe wheel bearings?...

hesitation is probably down to gearbox fluid being low bearings can be a nightmare but in best case u just need to take the hub off and get the bearings pressed out. if u take the hub off yourself and take it to sum were to get pressed u looking at an hours labor and w/e the bearings cost if they come out easily

thats an easy one mate. jack one side of the car up so one of the front driving wheels is off the ground. then run the engine in gear and your wheel which is lifted off the ground will turn. you can then check eachside individually. i thought your mechanic would know this, ask him why, or is it he just he wants to become rich with people like yourself who dont know these things? try finding either an honest mechanic or a one who knows more about cars !!!
