Question about Honda Pilot

1 Answer

2007 Honda Pilot TPMS Recently, I replaced 4 tire sensers as the indicator light continued to display. Now it is off. My question is: If I get rims for the winter tires without the TPMS sensors, come after the winter, would the indicator light go off when I reinstalled the summer tires with the sensors. motofum@total.net

Yes, when there is a trouble code it takes a certain number off on start cycles to reset the code on it's own. There isn't any issues in doing what your doing.
Thanks,

All you have to do to reset the TPMS light is make sure all your tires are set around 35-38 psi then drive it a a couple miles and the light will turn off. If it is blinking then you have a sensor issue and you will have to take it to the dealer. The tire pressure warning light is yellow not red."Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunction exists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow"

2007 Honda Pilot - spare tire - is it a full size tire? If not, can it be replaced with a full size tire?

Many saper tires are not full size and you can replace them with the same rim and tire set up that matches the rest. Please rate if this helps.

The new sensor I.D.'s will need to be programmed into the TPMS system. You could spend a couple of thousand dollars to get the tools to do this or call around some local shop or the dealer to see what the get for this. Then next summer you get to reprogram them again.

The other option is to pull 2 TPMS sensors out of your summer tires and install them into your winter wheels. Use a TPMS service kit to seal them up. You won't need to reprogram anything if you go this route.

The third option is not to worry about it. The old fashioned way of doing things was to check your tires every couple weeks for proper inflation. If you are in tune with the way your vehicle handles than you should be able to notice the change in the handling characteristics as a tire goes low. After all we survived for 100 years without TPMS.

TPMS Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Check ALL including the spare tire for proper air pressure. If all is well then check the fuse for the TPMS module. If all is well there, off to the dealer you may have to go.

Is tpms sensor needed when replacing tires?

Without the sensors, the lights will continue to warn you your pressure is low. No harm will come from this to your vehicle. It is a safety system to warn you about the tire pressure so you will take immediate action. The manufacturer is ramping up to meet requirements for future safety regulations.
