Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Coupe

1 Answer

My 96 cutlass ciera, 3.1 engine was over heating. We tore the engine apart and replaced all the gaskets which fixed the problem. The 12 push rods are the new problem. We removed them and cleaned them and they got mixed up. Bought the manual and it says to keep them in their original position. I noticed there are 2 different sizes. Can you help me by telling me which order they are supposed to be put back in?

The shorter push rods are for the intake valve and the longer push rods are for the exhaust valve.
Looking at the installed valve springs on the head, the taller springs are the intake valves and use the shorter push rods.
Since they're mixed up there's no way you'll be able to intall them in the same order, but as long as there is no excessive wear on the ends of the push rods you shouldn't have any issues by installing them in a random order.

What makes the fuel pump not kick on on a 92 Oldsmobile Cutlass

There is a red wire close to the battery in the front. It's not connected to anything. Apply positive voltage and that will run your pump for testing purposes.

I got water in oil...prob blown head gasket....i drove it to my brothers house and it shut off....he pushed me the rest of the way with his cranked back up....does it have a heat sencor if it...

If your car has the 3.1L V6- they are known to lose the intake manifold gasket and allow coolant into the oil system. I am not aware of any heat sensor that shuts the engine down.

'95 cutlass ciera, Mating the trans and engine?

Fit the torque convertor to the gearbox first, make sure it locates fully with the pump drive on the g/box(the round section that's got two flat sections) in the centre of the bellhousing. Make sure the convertor does not slip out when mating engine and g/box, when mated there should not be any gap between engine and g/box(transmision) without any bolts tightened, secure transmision to engine then only replace the bolts that holds the torque convertor to the flexplate.

Engine is knocking in my 1995 cutlass ciera

What ever you want, man. Drive it into the ground, or do an engine overhaul. Chances are the tranny is next.
