If you are using a high viscosity oil (thin),with a high mileage car, then you will suffer "blowpast"from the rings.drain the oil and replace with 10/40 or 20/50,dependant on whats in it now.makers sometimes recc a 5/30 oil,but thats for a new engine, especially high output sportscars.....porche etc.(they recc 10/40 on new !!!)

2005 Lincoln Navigator stopped running, had oil but is now 3 quarts low. Suggestions?

IT BURNED THE THREE QUARTS OUT THE TAILPIPE IN BLUE SMOKE. CHECK THE PVC. OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD AND LOOK FOR THE PROPER COLOR OF THE COOLANT. SPARK PLUGS ARE FOULED BY OIL

Changed spark plugs now runs rough and has thick white exhaust

Changing the plugs probably had nothing to do with it.
White smoke is usually a sign the engine is burning coolant or trans fluid. You might want to check those fluid levels.
If the coolant is low, you may have a leaking head gasket or intake gasket.

My 97 honda accord is blowing white smoke and running rough then i went to start it now it wont start

Sounds like either a blown motor (rings need replaced) or a bad head gasket or cracked head.
If the rings are bad your car would have felt like it was losing power because the engine will no longer have the same high compression that it's required to turn the wheels. You may have heard your engine knocking or seen a light blue colored smoke coming from your exhaust as a result of your engine burning up oil in the combustion chamber from the rings leaking.
If your head gasket is leaking or your head is cracked you'd likely find milky looking oil when you drain your oil from water/antifreeze being mixed in and noticed a white smoke coming from your exhaust that is actually water vapor coming through the exhaust.
If your car was running rough when you last shut it off try pulling all of your spark plugs and either cleaning them or replacing them all. A bad head gasket or bad rings can both foul spark plugs. A car will run rough with 1 or 2 fouled plugs, but once enough foul it will no longer run at all just sit and crank over. If changing the plugs get's it started for ya, check your tailpipe first for water, if nothing, change your oil. If no signs of water/antifreeze or milky colored oil then it's probably rings.

Running rough and white thick smoke from exhaust

sounds like you are burning coolant. sounds like you have a headgasket issue or cracked block. is your coolant level low?? in the overflow bottle and in the raadiator? something tells me that you will find that coolant is low. you are pulling coolant into the engine and it goes into the cylinder and pass the exhaust to the back of the car. the white smoke is the coolant burning off and thats why the car runs rough, because coolant is not flamable so it doesnt burn. this results in the spark plug not firing right and having rough running condition.

I recently bought a 1996 Lexus ES300. Upon purchasing it, I did a full service tune up (changed air filter, plugs, wires, oil, tires, brakes, and rotors). Everything seemed to be fine, as it ran...

Since you recently bought this car, did the seller inform you that the car had a problem? If they didn't and knew there was a problem (and 1-2 quarts a week oil consumption is something they would know) that is fraud.

Did you have oil residue on your plugs when you pulled them out and checked them? Which cylinders did you have the oil residue if any?

If you are burning 1-2 quarts of oil a week your tail pipe should be black if not oily. Is your car smoking badly? Have you considered doing a compression check to find out the health of your engine? I would if I was in your position.

Although you seem to be the handy type of guy, rebuilding an engine is not for the light hearted without a thorough mechanical background. Depending on your knowledge base and tool inventory and rebuilt engine might be the way to go.

My 2009 H2 is idling rough for 2-5 min with a cool start, after 2 weeks of doing this, its now blowing white smoke on the first start of the day for 2-5 mins, after that it runs normally, I have NO...

My guess would be a leaking intake or head gasket. Water in the cylinder(s) is shorting the spark plug until the temp comes up on the engine. The white smoke is the coolant being burnt off. check your coolant level it may be low.

Problem with 2nd cylinder plugs in 1999 lancer coupe. Need to replace plug every 2-3 weeks. Oil build up and then runs rough can anybody help diagnose the problem

Sounds like your piston rings are shot on that cylinder. The oil is creeping by the piston ring and clotting up on the spark plug causing it to misfire on that cylinder, thus causing the roughness. This is especially evident if you are noticing bluish colored smoke from the exhaust and/or your oil level is dropping.

Added 3 quarts of oil now white smoke is coming from exhaust

you have to drain the excess oil i would suggest a complete oil change and oil filter. TAke off spark plugs put some wd 40 on each sparkplug hole start the car without any sparkplugs on ir. Reolace sparkplugs with new ones and the car should run again. I would also suggest to check for faulty sparkplug wires and bad air filter. While you are at it go ahead and check fuel filters.
