How do i repair a leaking power sterring unit

I am unsure whether you mean the pump, or the steering rack. Which ever it is, both are made of high precision parts which require several special tools for repair. It is common practice to replace a faulty unit with a new or reconditioned exchange one. For a safety critical unit like this, I would recommend doing that.

If you want more info, see here. It is for an earlier model, but very similar.

Toyota echo steering

There is a pressure relief valve in the pump that allows excessive pressure to bleed out and so not lock up the pump. This is spring loaded so I would be checking the spring tension as the noise may be the valve vibrating from repeated unloading of the pressure more rapidly than it should . It will go when the steering is being turned but will reappear when the wheel movement is stopped . As power steering pumps are the same as sump pumps ( 2 spur gears in a case ) they are mostly un repairable as when the case is worn there is excessive clearance between the teeth and the body and the teeth of the gears will have excessive back lash . As one gear is on a shaft and the other gear is driving from the pulley any misalignment will cause problems as the gears will tend to be out of mesh. It is always best to replace a pump with a new item and not reconditioned as they are seldom repaired correctly.

Power steering hard

Hey Kumar,
Does the steering get easier when it gets hot? If it get easier when hot, its the rack and pinion gear. The valve body (actually a teflon composition ring(s) o-rings/valve bore housing are getting worn to the point where they are not controlling the fluid flow when its cold,, when the rack and pinion gets hot, the valve bore expands and "corrects" the clearance which in turn, controls the fluid flow. The valve body bore in the rack and pinion housing is worn where the teflon rings ride against the bore.
This is nothing that can be fixed except by replacing the entire rack and pinion gear. Drain ALL the power steering fluid from the pump also and fill with fresh new fluid.

Noise when terning and while just going straight plus losing fluid

You've got a power steering fluid leak. The noise is the power steering pump low on fluid. I would put some Lucas Power Steering treatment in the system and refill the fluid. It won't fix the leak forever, but it will recondition the seals and rubber and buy you a lot of time.

My power steering fluids leaks daily - what needs to be done.

it depends where it is leaking from,if is a hose fitting it might just need tightening up,if it is from the power steering pump it is most likely the front seal behind the pulley & it will have to be replaced, or replace the whole pump, if it is the steering rack it could be the the pinion seal ( where the steering column connects ) at the ends of the rack where the tie rod connects (inside the rubber boots) all these seals can be replaced ,but sometimes it is better to fit reconditioned units, depending how many kilometeres/miles the vehicle has done.....hope this helps....cheers

Power steering heavy turning left in isuzu rodeo 4x4

check the power steering pump, if its good than it will be rack and pinion issue. the pump create a high pressure to help assist with steering, and the rack and pinion work like hydraulic cylinder which receive the pressure from the pump and the steering work like control valves. by turn left or right you controling the pressure to make the wheels turn either right or left. check and see if you have any leaks.
