Anybody having hesitation problems on 2000 3 series, especially when it's hot with the air on? It's not real bad, but it occurs when you pull away from stop lights, ect. It can be annoying. I've already had it back to the dealer and they tried to blame it on DSC. It acts like the engine doesn't have enough power to get the car moving.
I have an 01 330i but don't know if my problem is quite the same, as it only happens from a standing start when I floor it. If I don't floor it, or if I floor it while it's going decent speed it's fine. I do have a code that comes up as an ignition misfire, but it's not specific to a cylinder. I'm thinking it's probably worn out spark plugs and maybe a defective coil. BMW says the plugs go 100K, and my car has 81K on it now, so probably due for replacement. Have any of you checked the health of your iginition systems? PS I have changed the air filter recently to no avail.

HI ALL SOUNDS SILLY BUT CHECK AIR FILTER FIRST AND IF THATS SPOTLESS ITS YOUR MAX AIR FLOW METER IF THIS GOES DOWN YOU LOSE 45 PERCENT OR MORE OF YOUR CARS POWER NO MATTER WHAT THE ENGINE SIZE...ONLY BUY A NEW ONE FROM BMW IF YOUR LOADED ....EBAY IS FAR CHEAPER I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ALL...

This is an ECU fault. Had the same problem & BMW eventually replaced the ECU under warranty. Runs like a dream since that was done.

I've got a 320iSE (2000) and have exactly the same problem. When pulling away, it seems as if you have not given the car enough throttle - the only alternative is to give the car plenty of gas. The problem is also noticeable on tight bends at low speed where the car appears to hiccup before pulling cleanly. My car is UK spec and has traction control but not DSC. The dealer advises me that "they all do it" due to the fly by wire throttle. Does anybody know a solution.
Regards Andy

I know this doesn't help, but I too am glad you mentioned this. My 1997 528iA does the same; it almost seems like the engine is going into some sort of economy mode in order to keep the A/C powered, but that's just a shot in the dark.

That's funny - my '95 325i exhibits the opposite behavior. If I nail the gas the a/c will start blowing warm air, making me think the engine is temporarily cutting power to the compressor.

It sounds like DSC to me. Does it do it when you disable DSC?

My girlfriend's 2001 325 sedan Automatic does EXACTLY what you guys are griping about. Problem still exists when DSC is off.
This makes it very hard to drive this car smoothly. **Are all who are having this problem driving automatics?**
We have an appointment with the dealer to have this checked on 7/31. Any advice, thoughts, solutions, suggestions, etc?
This is really annoying and has actually kept me from purchasing one of my own.

If you're referring to my post about the a/c blowing warm air when I hit the gas - I believe DSC came along well after '95.
My '95 325i has no traction or stability control of any kind; ABS is as sophisticated as it gets! BMW was even thoughtful enough to end the limited-slip option in '94, replacing it with traction control in '95, which I didn't really need (so I didn't get it, whereas I actually wanted a limited-slip).
Anyway, I experience no hesitation in hot weather with the a/c running. As I said, I think the engine will actually draw power away from the a/c when I nail the gas in order to give me acceleration. Most often happens when I'm sitting in the middle of an intersection and wanting to make an "expeditious" left turn :-) Oh yes, the car is an auto.

My 320 is a manual and the problem occurs whether or not the air con is switched on.

Regarding possible causes of the hesitation, has anyone tried to change to another gasoline.
I have not had such a problem, even driving with the temperature at 110 degrees, 2000 323Ci.
Further, I would assume that you are using fresh gas with the proper octane rating (High Test 92)?

People,
Let's get back to the point...
Some of you seem to have the same issue as my girlfriend's 2001 E46 325i:
- Hiccup from stop under moderate (20-25% pedal press) acceleration. - Often pronounced when accelerating moderately from stop and executing a curve. - Happens when DSC is on or off. - Happens even when fuel is 92 or greater octane.
Does anyone have additional symptoms to add and most importantly, does anyone have the correct solution?
I have the same problem in 325xi 04, had it scanned and found code 305 and 313 which points out that one of the cylinder is misfiring due to either bad spark plug, or bad coil and worst case not enough compression in one of the cylinder.
have it checked with the mechanic, otherwise may cause more harm to your cat.
