Question about 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

My front wheel on the driver's side is making a rattling sound like it's loose. I checked the lug nuts and they're covered with plastic caps. The plastic caps have flanges that are under the hub cap. I can't get the caps off because the hub cap won't come off. What do I do now?

Good Evening, this is something I run across alot and mainly it tends to be the hubcaps. And I would first off try to remove the hubcap first an drive it and see if that is the issue, if you still have a rattling noise then investigate further maybe a sway bar link or such. But always look at the obvious first, usually it is something minor that can be overlooked. Take your lug wrench and loosen all the plastic caps and once you have them all loose the hubcap will come off. Hope this helps.

I'll give that a try and check back in a few days. Thank you, cjkelly025 aka Joey.

Why is the drivers side rear rotor so loose, can hear it rattle when kick tire. Pulled wheel and everything looks normal can move it freely. None of others are like that. On 1991 chevy lumina euro

Check your studs, they maybe stripped at the end and the lug nuts are not holding the tire against the rotor tight, replace all 5 studs and all 5 lug nuts and see if it solves your problem.

Lug Nuts keep falling off?

This is a somewhat common problem, believe it or not. Due to lack of preventive maintenance, the wheels will sometimes work themselves loose. If caught early, the loose nuts may merely need tightening to proper torque specs to solve the problem. After a certain point, damage is done to the wheels and lugs and nuts, due to the "flapping" of the loose wheel. Past this point, parts must be checked and replaced.

Whatever you do, have the wheels and lugs checked by a competent mechanic ASAP! This is a serious safety hazard that could turn deadly on the road. Is a new wheel worth more than your life? No it isn't, you can afford it!

Flat front tire

you probably have alloy wheels. take rubber headed hammer and hit one side of the wheel, be careful because the wheel could hit you when it comes off.

I have a flat tire and i can't get the plastic silver face plate off how do i get it off without breaking it?

if your talking about the chrome plated hub caps, you can use a 3/4" socket with a short extension to unsrew the black plastic nut covers off turning them counterclockwise until they're loose then pull the wheel coves off. When you screw the plastic nut covers on tighten by hand until they're snug don't over tighten them you can srtip the plastic threads (note: the actual lug steel lug nuts are under the wheel covers make sure you tighten them good )

The cetre caps covering the lug nuts on the wheels rattle like crazy. It is quite annoying especially at slow speeds. Wha is the solution?

sounds like a nut came lose and is rattling around in side to hubcap or a stone .
pop off all hubcaps and see if anything is lose inside any of them

2006 z71 5.3ltr. has a loose marble sound coming from passenger side front wheel.

It may just be a stone that got inside the wheel and hasnt gotten tossed out. It could also be a loose lug nut. A good visual inspection should be able to find the problem. One thing to note, the black plastic caps that hold your hub cap on are not your lug nuts! They screw onto your lug nuts, so to see the lug nuts you'll need to unscrew these caps.

Just curious on my 2001 cavalier base model are my lug nuts attaching my wheel covers or is it just a cover that pops off

I beleive this model has standard pop off hubcap. Also the same for aftermarket hubcaps for this vehicle.
