Question about Chevrolet Avalanche

1 Answer

I have a starting issue with my 2003 AValanche 1500 w 5.3 L. It has 137K. After sitting I have to crank for extra 5 to 7 seconds before it chugs to life. Has rough idle as well. Somewhat of a "rich smell" after it finally starts. This just started in the last 4 days. No Codes. Tune up done in last fuel pmp, filter, etc in last 5K miles. Any ideas?

Hi! Pretty much a spark plug problem. If the spark plugs are faulty or full of carbon the fuel will be hard to burn, one good reason for hard starting. Try replacing the spark plugs and I strongly suggest to put a platinum spark plugs for better fuel burning. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

How do you replace front crank seal on 02 avalanche

The front crank seal is behind the oil pump on the LS series motors. There is also a seal at the crankshaft and harmonic balancer on the front timing cover. This is typical leak area. You can carefully remove the harmonic balancer with a puller, replace the timing cover seal and reinstall. Make sure not to pinch the seal lip You will have to have a special tool in order to re-install the balancer, which is extra long to squeeze it on the tapered shaft. I do not think the other crank seal is an issue since it drains to the pan behind the oil pump.

Yes, it can be a fuse. Check the 15amp INJ1 fuse under the hood. Also check the IGN 0, PCM 1 and PCM B fuses.

2003 avalanche cranks but dies out

GM has had problems with their antitheft/security systems for about 30 years. The problem is that when the system can't read the key properly, the computer shuts down the fuel injectors after 2-5 seconds of starting the vehicle. This to prevent HOTWIRING the vehicle, but tends to hurt owners when it fails more often.

2003 avalanche will start after it sits for a while but dies a few seconds later

Sound like to me it is TPS Switch( Throttle Possitioner Switch).
Or Fuel Pump Relay? Either will cause this to happen due to signals picked up by ECM and PCM. Hope this helps you out?

2007 avalanche has a new cranks but wont start

If the engine cranks but does not start, you would need to know if you have spark to the plugs and fuel to the injectors to proceed.

I have a2003 avalanche it will quit running going down the road or sitting at an idle . if it sits for while it will start back up with no check engine lights on ,about a have hour . fuel pump works but no...

The best thing to do here is to have the ignition system checked over with a Consult II diagnostic tool. You could have problems with the following: 1. The Crank angle sensor. 2. The Cam angle sensor 3. The ignition module. 4. The ignition control module 5. The coils them selves, but this sounds like it is a signal problem to these not the actual coils themselves.
So get these areas checked and let me know if you need more information.

My check engine light came on and my was bogging and chugging at 2500 to 3000 RPM and now it would not start unless I left the key turned and cranked for 5-10 seconds. Error codes are P0522 Oil Pressure...

There is a new PCM flash for this condition, the Technical service bulletin reference # is 18-026-03. The update will need to be done by a dealer. I would recommend this before replacing any parts.

Heater issue, driver side of 2004 Chevy Avalanche

1. Place the ignition switch in the off position.
2. Remove the HVAC/ECAS fuse for 10 seconds or more. It's in the under hood fuse box. Put the temp in full cold.
3. Install the fuse.
5. Have any codes cleared with a scan tool.

Intermitent high idle

Have your timing checked. Retarded timing can cause the issues you have. A quick adjustment could fix it.
