Question about 1997 Honda Accord

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Honda Accord, and the trunk spring just broke. I was wondering if I can install a pneumatic trunk strut, like the newer cars have. I ordered one and it just arrived today. Any pointers on installation, how to drill the holes need in the trunk to hold the hardware, what I might need to know before I o anything and potential hack my car up? Thanks!

The way not to hack it up is to replace the spring. They should be cheap from a salvage yard.

Replacing rear coil springs

You have to remove the struts from the car. Place the struts on a compression tower to relief pressure from spring. Once spring is compressed take of the top bolt on the strut which holds on the strut mount. After strut mount nut is off, loosen the springs tension and replace it with the new coil spring you are planning one using. Tighten the spring with mount back on and tighten bolt. then reinstall on car.

Trunk struts on a 1990 honda accord are off. How do I install them?

At each end of the struts there is a clip that you pull out slightly to unlock the socket on the other side.

Put the socket on the ball mounted on the trunk or the lid and then put the clip back in place. That locks it on the ball mount. Thats it!

How to cange front shocks.?

Raise and support the car safely and remove the front wheels. Undo the clip holding the brake line to the strut. Loosen the bolts holding the strut to the steering knuckle. Before removing them, remove the strut mount tower bolts under the hood. Then remove the other bolts, the entire strut assembly will slide out. You can either install a complete new strut and spring assembly (more expensive), or you can use a coil spring compressor to remove the spring from the old strut and install it on a new strut (less expensive but a lot more work, and you must have access to a spring compressor). Make sure when installing the spring that it is aligned correctly on the new strut. Also, you should replace the strut mounts with new ones. Be aware that a compressed spring is very dangerous, so be sure to follow the instructions for the spring compressor. Re-install the strut assembly. Make sure that the knuckle bolts and strut mount bolts are torqued to spec.

I dont know how to put the trunk struts in my trunk for my 1992 honda accord ex. there 2 bars that cross but when i put them in it dosent hold the runk up. any help?

SO, YOU REPLACED THE REAR STRUTS ON A 92 ACCORD, AND THE TRUNK (REAR) OF THE VEHICLE IS STILL SAGGING? DID YOU REMOVE THE UPPER CONTROL ARM/ BALL JOINT ASSY.? DID YOU ADD THE COIL SPRING ASSY. TO THE STRUT? IF YOU ANSWERED YES TO THE FIRST, THEN YOU MAY HAVE THE CONTROL ARMS ON THE WRONG SIDE RESPECTIVELY RH OR LH, OR YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE UPPER CONTROL ARM UPSIDE DOWN ( THE ARCH OF THE ARM IS TO BE UP). HARD TO HELP WITHOUT MORE INFO.... M.GOOD
