Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

1998 ford f150 cranks good and starts good when cold but when i stop for a short time ,maybe 20 min,it cranks but wont start

A girlfriend had the same problem.. I found air in the fuel rail. After a few times of bleeding it everytime it happened, problem seemed to be solved. I think it may have been a pickup hose leak in the fuel tank

I would unplug the gas cap when it stalls; if you hear a hissing sound, change the gas cap, because it builds up a vacuum in the tank.

Starts cold runs well,whenshut off it wont start hot..have to wai t5 mins then starts


You can use obd2 code reader to check the engine system. Maybe it got fault codes problem.

1998 F150 Hard to start when hot. Have to crank engine for 30 seconds. Runs ok after starting. Check engine says it is running lean. Starts ok when cold.


I have the same problem with my F150 4.6. Long cranking when out door tempurature is hot. Engine temp gauge indicates normal engine tempurature. Looking for solution.

mine doing same, we think some how maybe vaccume hose, or vapor lock. Every time we fill up. No other time. Have you found a solution?

depending how many miles are on motor, sounds like cam bearings have wear,will knock at start up until they fill with oil. hotrod
