This if for location to disable... Buzzer location: u Under the driver side dash, search for a bright orange 'solinoid' like deviceroughly 2 inches long and 1 inch around (it maybe about one inch square). Look while the alarm is sounding. Unplug the alarm. Tape the ends of the exposed wires.

Go sit in your truck and close all the doors. Light stays on right? Put your key in the ignition. Does the chime start going off when you put the key in? If so, door switch or the GEM thinks a door is open.
To find out which door... Leave the key in the ingntion. Turn to the on position. Even with doors closed, chime sounds once after a few seconds and door ajar light comes on and stays on right? Open each door one by one. The chime should sound each time you open a door. When you find the door that doesn't make the chime sound when you open it, that is the problem. (Don't forget to try the rear hatch and the hatch glass also!) To determine if the switch is bad or if the GEM is having a problem thinking the door is open, just unplug the suspected switch, close all the doors, and see if the problem stops. (don't forget to wait a second to give the lights time to go off) If unplugging the switch solves it, the replace it. If it doesn't, Ford can check your GEM to see if it is the problem.

Other details could finr in the 2004-Ford-Explorer-Sport-Trac-Owners-Manual

Hope helps.

Chime doesn't work, When you leave the key in the ignition and door open, no chime. When you turn the truck off with the headlight on, no chime. Also when you open the drivers door, no interior lights

Common problem for a Ford. I found with mine having that and multiple other low voltage problems it came down to the body computer. Don't skip over the easy things first though. The fuse, the chime itself and a grounding wire.

Where is the transmission tag id located

for that generation of Ford/Lincoln vehicle (1998-2004)

it's a E40D / 4R100 automatic transmission

so you can look for those letters /numbers on the housing just above the trans pan

but 2 sites give you a better & easier ID-ing of the transmission by counting the bolts and looking at the shape of the transmission pan
How to Identify Ford Automatic Transmissions eHow

another site has a trans type on the door tag: if it's "E", then you got that the type of trans i mentioned above

Does my 2003 ford explorer sport have front wheel drive, rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. my email is kmmock1@gmail.com

it is most likely an automatic awd, 4 hi is full time 4 wheel drive, 4 lo is full time 4 wheel drive but at a very low gear ratio and should not exceed 25 mph or could cause damage. and DO NOT shift into 4 lo while vehicle is in motion. Auto is a 2 wheel drive but automatically engages into 4 wheel drive under heavy acceleration.

I just acquired my parents 2004 ford explorer from them and was wondering if the 4x4 auto comes on automatically or do you have to turn it on? they said there was some problems with the lights in the dash...

Why would or how would a vehicle know it was snowing,
and needed 4 wheel turned on?

Of coarse you have to select a button to turn it on or off

That said, it may not be working correctly, which is what your
parents told you!!

You need to remove the trans pan to inspect the parking pawl and rod. Hopefully you can adjust or repair with trans in your vehicle.

Also don't assume your cable etc is okey. You don't know that. You may be able to adjust it and be okey.

Check your operator's manual. Make sure any and all fuses that have anything to do with the affected items are not blown and are working properly. If you can; check for loose fuse connections or wires. Hope this helps. God bless!
