How to remove lift gate panel to access window shield wiper

Trim panels are usually retained by a combination of screws, often retaining grab handles and other furniture, and hidden clips.

Some screws are obvious and others are hidden by blanking plugs.

A few panels are completely retained by screws and some panels are completely retained by concealed clips. A few panels are retained at the lower end by screws and/or hidden clips and then when these are released the panel must be slid upwards to unhook at the top.
Removing a panel usually breaks a few clips and sometimes it doesn't matter how carefully or carelessly panels are removed a certain amount of damage and broken clips/studs is inevitable, especially in cold weather. Sometimes considerable force is needed especially if the panel hasn't been removed before.

There are a number of special tools for dealing with trim panels and studs but these are of limited use to unskilled or inexperienced hands and of limited use to even an experienced person encountering a new model for the first time. The tools are designed to reach far behind the panel and a vee-shaped groove can engage with the stud (if it can be found) and lever it from the metalwork. Such tools don't often prevent the stud breaking but does help protect the panel from damage.

When dealing with door and tailgate panels it is well to have a selection of studs and clips available and a variety of glues, plastic welding equipment to hand as well as being able to give completing the task satisfactorily sufficient time.

Need to replace drivers side rear view mirror, powered. I have the new mirror, just need to know how t install it.

Hi,
You remove the door panel on the inside and it is bolted on from the inside. One wire clip and 3 bolts. Takes longer to remove and replace the door panel than replace the mirror....look for a hidden screw under the armrest , under the window/door lock button panel and sometimes behind the reflector or light on the bottom of door..Usually there are 3-4 screws and then the rest of the panel is held on by plastic clips. Get the screws out, then work a flat screwdriver or putty knife around the sides and bottom of panel, then lift upwards to get the top sealing side out of the track where the window runs.....Mike

How do i remove the factory radio on my 1983 cadillac fleetwood

Hi there,

Locate and remove two (2) phillips screws that secure the top of the plastic panel that surrounds the radio. The plastic dash panel will pull off once the screws are removed as shown in the photo above.
The front of the radio is held in with two (2) 7mm bolt screws at the top of the radio. Remove the 2 bolt screws.
There is a hidden radio that secures the rear of the radio and is located under the radio. Pull the ashtray to its extended position. You will need to lay on your back or side and look behind the ashtray, up to the bottom of the radio.
Once the ashtray has been pull to its extended position, you should be able to locate and remove one (1) 7mm bolt screw as seen in the photo above.
Once all screws have been removed, the radio can then be removed. Pull firmly on the radio to remove it from the dash. The radio will most likely resist pulling from the dash. The antenna cable which plugs into the rear of the radio is very short and gives the radio resistance when trying to pull the radio out of the dash. Continue to pull firmly and the antenna cable will unplug itself as the radio is pulled from the dash.
Unplug (1) blue, (1) white, and (1) black wire harness connector(s) from the rear of the radio. There will also be wires extending from the rear of the radio with a plastic connector attached to the wires about 4 inches from the rear of the radio. Unplug this small connector. The radio can now be completely removed from the dash. Set it aside. You will need to remove the plastic brackets attached to the top and bottom of the GM radio. This will be shown in detail in the "Mount New Radio" section.

Hope these helps....

How do I replace dashboard heater light? The glowing lights that indicate direction of air flow.

Heater light bulb, and all other bulbs for the air conditioning buttons, are on the same mini panel, and attached to the back of the radio front fascia. To dismount this fascia, you need 1) To pry out (no screws) the clock 2) Unscrew the one screw that holds the top of the fascia (screw is hidden behind clock) 3) Unscrew the two screws at the bottom of the fascia 4) Disconnect all connectors from the back of the fascia 5) Look for the burnt minibulb.
You could replace the bulb without disconnecting, but the cables are short, and the possibilities of marring your dashboard are high.

Need to pull door panel off to replace power window motor can not get door panel off

There are 2 screws holding the window switches to the door and 2 screws for the door panel, one is in the pull handle, the other behind the window switches. Remove these screws and using a trim remover(hopefully) work around the sides and bottom of the door to pop the plastic retainers out of the door, push in at the top of the door panel and push up from the bottom to release the top retainer.
There is more to changing the motor than you may think. Steel cover has to be popped off and reused, so be careful.

To remove the stock stereo

Basically:

1: remove center console - 2 parts where the shifter is located... all of em use clips - just give it a nice pull and it'll pop off
2: remove driver side panel attached to radio console( 2 clips only)
3: remove screw found behind center pocket under a/c control
4: pop out a/c unit (4 clips - 2 on top 2 on bottom) just give it a nice pull... (was scary at first but easy and won't break anything)
5: pull entire front center panel (silver piece that covers radio/ac etc etc)
6: radio is attached via 4 screws - 2 on bottom - 2 on side
7: remove radio
8: make sure u have the AI install kit to install radio w/
9: reattach everything n you're done!
