Suggest you look on the drivers side of the engine in the front, there is a black metal guard that covers a pulley that drives the water pump. Make sure the belt is not broken and that the water pump turns freely. Have the cooling system checked for exhaust gases, That is the way to check for blown head gaskets. Is there any coolant in the oil? The Northstar engine is designed to shut down cylinders one at a time to protect itself when overheating. Hope this will help you.

2005 Mercury Sable Low RPM/dying on start

this 17 years old a good run. nothing new here on failures this old.
all car fail that is what they all do eventually. (entropy etc)
let me guess never fails in others hands
and scans show nothing wrong, but sure too late then, they are gone.
so is and engine problem, so we focus there.
engines (gas, in order fail for 3 ways)
  1. engine is bad, or cat melted (no) and egr stuck open (no)
  2. bad spark (fuel can not burn lacking spark so why skip #2?)
  3. bad fueling. too much or too little
in that order,

not enough evidence stated.
RPM's sink on start sometimes dies then usually it catches itself, idles high a few seconds then lines out.

runs great hot engine, so I guess fails only cold engine.
so bad spark plugs, bad spark coil boots or bad COPS
or bad CKP or CMP
why not just put in new plugs and new boots,
17years old those are NEVER GOOD.

ENGINE IS: 3.0L 2v or 4v (means 6x2 =12valvs or 6x4=24vavle heads.???? it has COPS, coil over plugs(spark)
6 cops ,6 new spark plugs and 6 new boots.
or learn now scan and drive,
or scan in the morning dead cold as the RPM go nuts
and does it misfire going nuts the RPM> misfire is spark first
or flooding 2nd the cold fast idle speed is wrong (IAC)

all I here is almost STALLS at cold start means why below 800 rpm hot and 1500 rpm cold so stalling is what MISFIRE?
can you prevent the too low RPM and stall with fast right foot action?
I say bad spark if not bad spark that is leaking injector or pair

learn to listen and feel for misfire,
and to use the right foot , adding throttle extra air to make it burn clean. Misfire s mostly violent. felt , heard, and see if you view the engine shack.
that is all I have but scanning it failing is how you fix cars

nobody can fix working car delivered a work car...
I have scan tool that logs and then play them back and bingo
GOTCHA. (P0306, and number 6 injectors is bad) see?

Car:2k Dodge Caravan 3.0L no start with all plug spark OK. Still no start after injecting Starter fluid directly into throttle body with throttle open. Now baffled. What to do next?

What is model year of vehicle? I looked at info, 2000 dodge caravan 3.0L engine, it showed coil pack no distributor.
I guess my database could be wrong, just trying to figure it out?

1999 Ford Taurus keeps running hot

Does it get hot mainly when parked or stopped at a red light or does it get hot even when the car is in motion? If its only when your stopped, the cooling fans are probably not working due to a blown fuse, relay or bad fan motor. If the coolant inside the reservoir seems to boil once the engine gets hot, that can be caused by a defective radiator cap.A blown head gasket will also cause overheating. If you let the engine idle for a few minutes, shut it off, pull all of the spark plugs, see if any plug or two adjacent plugs are wet with coolant, that's a sign of a blown head gasket. If you constantly need to refill the radiator with coolant, that's another sign.

My 07 forenza had a code come up saying misfire on 1 and 4 plug so I replaced coil pack now it's reading #3 misfire and has a sluggish take off.Any ideas are appreciated

The sluggish take off is most likely due to a misfire. Pull the spark plug wire on cyl#3 and hold it over an engine ground. It should spark constantly with engin cranking/running. If spark is present..... most likely a bad spark plug. However, there are many more things that can attribute to a misfire but this is the most common

2005 dodge caravan sxt engine missing

I have run into these caravans burning oil, not much you can do except keep an eye on the oil level or spend a lot of money having piston rings replaced.
The best way to go about finding the misfire would be to go to an auto zone or other auto parts store that will scan the computer for codes. the codes will tell you which cylinder is misfiring.
I would bet it could be a fouled spark plug due to oil burning but could be a plug wire also.Have the codes read and find the cylinder that is misfiring and remove the spark plug and see if the tip is covered or worn down, if it is then replace spark plug and you may want to do them all. up to you.
If the plug is okay then move on to spark plug wires, swap the misfiring cylinder wire with another cylinder and see if misfire moves if it does then replace the wires.

To find the cylinder by #. If you are standing if front of the van looking at engine cylinders 2,4,and 6 are in front, closest to radiator from left to right. then cylinders 1,3,and 5 are at the rear also going left to right.
Good day.

Esteem 1.6 misfiers until it foils spark plugs it is worst when cold or in traffick

All this happened after you had an overheating problem? Maybe some internal damage in engine? How hot did it get? Extreme overheating can cause damage to the piston rings caused it to burn oil, that would explain it running rich, and fouling out plugs. Also running hot can cause valves to warp, which it turn would cause misfiring. To start off I would take a compression check and see what condition the engine is in. It is a little hard to recommend fixes because I don't know how hot the engine got, or that is part of the problem at all. Please rate my answer so I am rewarded points for it.

Hi, recently my radiator cap came off (maybe I didn't screw it on tightly enough, girl strength) anyway the car started to rev (in a surge kind of way), I stopped at a gas station and left it for 30mins to...

Try replacing your spark plug wires. It is probably just misfiring, which will cause the engine to "surge" and then back off. This will repeat until the misfire is fixed. I would start with replacing the spark plug wires, and if you have any more problems, let me know. The radiator cap coming off would have eventually caused the engine to overheat, but it sounds like you didn't let it get that far. The spark plug wires may have gotten wet due to the radiator cap coming off, and now the spark plug wires are shorting out worse than they probably already were.

I have a misfire and the plugs r white i drive a 2001 honda crv

If someone put the wires on on in the wrong firing order pattern or one or more of the plug wires are bad the engine will misfire. White residue on the plug is probably due to the engine running hotter than normal caused by the misfire. Try replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires.
