Question about 1996 Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Chevy Suburban, 2 wheel drive,1500 . Today the tachometer and the speedometer went out at the same time. Also, the gear/transmision indicator on the steering column went out and my transmission wont change gears while driving. I found the "Trans" fuse blown so I replaced it and everything went back to normal, but the new fuse blew a few minutes later. I cant find any loose wires anywhere or any other blown fuses. What are some possible causes?

The fuse is blowing because you have a short in the one of the power wires that go to the trans. You need to chase the power wire for the trans and find where it is rubbing on metal or to a ground wire.Should be the pink 1020 wire that goes from the connector at the drivers side of the trans to the fuse box.Hope this helps.Let me know what you found and good luck.

It depends on if it is an automatic or manual, 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, but I would say no more than 5,000 lbs. just to be on the safe side

Unplug the connector at the rear wiper motor, turn the switch on and probe the wires with a test lamp, if you have power back there you more than likely have a bad motor. If there is no power start checking fuses they are all labeled easily on the back side of the fuseblock covers both on the dash and underhood. Good Luck!!!
