Question about Cadillac DeVille

How do i take out the oil pan of a 1998 cadillac deville? i cant drop it from the bottom. The muffler is in the way.

It's probably easier to remove the exhaust system than to jack up the engine. Actually, instructions at say to remove the engine. I hope you don't have to do that. If you can get by with just removing the exhaust system, that is what I would do.

4.6L Engine

  1. Remove the engine assembly and place it on a stand.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove the 13 oil pan bolts and remove the oil pan.

How do you remove the oil pan on a 1991 cadillac DeVille?

You may have to drop one end of the oil pan down enough for you to put your arm in and unbolt the oil pump. The oil pump hanging down in the pan won't allow you to pull the pan out until the pump is unbolted.

you have to reseal the oil pan, the oil pan is a 2 piece upper and lower pan. the engine or trans mission has to0 be rtemoved to remove the oil pan per general motors there is new sealer available also the front and rear crankshaft seals should be replaced (need special tools to replace seals)

the cross member blocks access to the pan so u cant drop it to replace the gasket if u undo motor mounts and and tranny mount may jack engine far enough to drop pan to replace gasket

The engine mounts must be removced and lift the engine upward with a hoist to remove the oil pan
