HI, I worked on porsches in the 80's . the 928 is their best car ever, (except for thje 911 of course)
I would say this was someone messing around, look for insulation tape or added on electrical connections, I never had any real nightmares except one , which was a 928 which would just stop on the motorway, when i got to it , it would start? took ages to trace, we would leave it running all day in the workshop? there was a plug hidden deep in behind the fuse board, which is behind a big bit of wood. in the passenger footwell, this was just not quite pushed home and used to pull apart slightly and push back into itself while stopped thus ensuring the car would restart, nightmare!..the vacuum system headlight alignmant system was a bit of a joke, lots of leaks, and you had replace the whole thing if it went wrong.the 928 engine is unbelievable, we priced a cylinder head gasket once and porsche cars gb said they had never sold one!.. It was a faulty ignition lead in the end..944's had a rear window problem with the heated screen not working, just double up the fuses, from one 20 amp to two 20 amps split, the one on its own causes heat, and insulates the fuse in the end and it does not work, goes black but is not blown, but no current passes through.Ps, there are lots of hidden switches under the dashboard pod on the 928's mileage reset, intensive windscreen wash etc, etc.
