Pump may be operating with broken impellers. Recommend you replace pump and sending unit--they may come together anyway. Any more questions, please let us know.

My GMC Sierra ran out of gas and now I can't get it to stay running.

Fuel injectors require a high pressure fuel pump which is located in the gas tank. The gas serves as the lubricant for the pump, so wen you ran out and emptied the tank completely you no longer had lubricant and the pump burn out. It won't pump gas now because it's the fuel pump is burned out and needs replacing. It runs when you put fuel in the injectors as that bypasses the pump. Replace the pump and the never let the tank get below 1/8th full (half a 1/4 of a tank). Not lie the old low pressure fuel pumps on the side of the engine blocks. Not cheap to buy a fuel pump and have to drop the tank to replace the burned out one. $$$ in costs even it you do it yourself.

1984 cadillac coupe deville has the security light on and cant get it to stay on i start it and the first time.i turn it it stays on for like 5 seconds and turns off.then it wont start after that. No gas...

It seems to me that you have a bad fuel pressure regulator, but before replacing the FPR locate the fuel filter disconnect the line that goes to the engine and not the one that goes into the fuel tank put a hose on the tip of fuel filter, place a container under to drop fuel now have someone turn the ignition key ON but engine off while you are going to observe for fuel, pressure needs to be strong if it looks to weak then it might be your fuel pump I also recommend to change the fuel filter sense you are there ,also check for power on the injectors connections with a test light, after doing this and everything seems fine then go head and replace the FPR fuel pressure regulator,WARNING working with fuel is highly dangerous make sure fuel doesn't touch any cables or look around for anything that can detonated fire, GOOD LUCK!!!!

1996, cadillac, deville getting codes pc0171 &pc0174,what does this mean?

Fuel trim lean, banks 1 & 2. That's a pretty strong indication that you should check the fuel pump pressure at the fuel rail, and check the fuel flow rate while you're there. There's a good chance that your fuel pump is just about ready to be replaced.

If you see good pressure & flow rate, run a couple of jugs (not at the same time) of carburetor & fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. It's possible that all your injectors have just gotten so dirty that they can't give you a full-rich mixture.

You'd best do it fairly soon - the engine is running lean, and it can't tolerate that for any great long time without some damage.

1989 Pontiac Grand Prix wont start. Engine seems to not be getting any fuel. I believe it is the fuel pump or fuel filter. How hard is to replace on of these and does anyone have a diagram for help??

The fuel pump is inside the gas tank, so the tank has to be drained and removed.
Someone would need to check fuel pressure at the injectors with a gauge, and if it is low, check to see if the pump is getting power from the pump relay.

What's your problem?1996 ford mustang sounds flooded & doesnt want stay on

You will need to check and make sure the fuel pump is pumping. either check the pressure with a guage or break the line at the injector rail to see if your getting fuel before we go any furthur

I have a 1996 Plymouth Breeze... That won't start,

Hi, this sounds like a bad fuel pump. I would have the fuel pressure checked. Sometimes Autozone will let you borrow a fuel pressure gauge to check your fuel pressure. Just unscrew the cover from the pressure port on the fuel rail and screw on the pressure gauge. Put a rag over your hand while screwing it on to avoid getting fuel sprayed around. Lay the gauge in a safe place and start the car. Read the gauge, record the reading, turn the car off and remove the gauge. If the pressure is less than 35 psi, you need a new fuel pump. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

1996 coupe de ville engine turns over won't start it has fuel and igniton won't run it just shut off not immediately started to slow down after pulling away from a traffic light and then shut down

1996 caddy, the first thing i would do is to have the computer scanned to see if there are any codes stored. the code help alot in pin pointing the problem. for example the computer is always watching all sensors and input and out sensors and when something fails or is out of specs then the computer stores a code for that component, could be a crank sensor or o2 sensor or even a loose gas cap, these code if any stored is where i would start frist. there are many auto part stores that scan these codes and give you a print out , you say theres spark and fuel but how much fuel pressure is there. You will need to check the fuel pressure at valve on injector rail, you could have fuel but with low pressure car will not start and if it does it will shut down or stall when giving it gas. start with a fuel gauge and make sure theres enough pressure, this problem sounds like a bad pump.

Gas gauge is not reading correctly. Shows a full

the problem is caused by a defective gas gauge sending unit, this part is located inside the gas tank, you must remove the gas tank to replace it.
